Hi there,
A few years ago I saw Bernardo Kastrup explain a rigorously scientific and philosophical perspective that consciousness is the fundamental building block of reality. A view that aligns with several ancient mystical traditions, but from the mouth of a man with two PhDs, who has worked at some of the world's most prestigious science labs.
Some people think that this conceptual approach is a distraction from the 'direct experience.' But I used to have powerful experiences in meditation whilst at the back of my mind I felt a nagging resistance. The nagging thought that I was basically deluding myself.
The more my rational mind can accept the possibility that 'everything is consciousness' the more I've been able to relax into increasingly profound and freeing perspectives. And from there even let go of holding any one view.
I've also enjoyed the simple thrill and poetry of a mind like Bernardo's exposing the evidence and the ways in which science and clear thinking do not support the conventional materialist paradigm.
Rupert Spira shares a similar perspective in this short video:
In ancient India this was, and still is, a common approach to non-duality. To build a thorough intellectual conviction of non-duality before surrendering to a place the intellect can't touch.
This November we're meeting with Bernardo once more, together with guests Rupert Spira, and Federico Faggin, the inventor of the microprocessor. Federico had a profound spiritual awakening when he applied his rigorous scientific mind to the 'hard problem of consciousness' and has a unique and heartfelt perspective on this topic. Its been so great to join these guys in conversation, so I hope you can come.
We gather online from Tues 8th Nov for 5 weeks.
Hoping to see you there!
