“In some Native languages the term for plants translates to 'those who take care of us.”
— Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass
Hi there,
The Shipibo people of the Amazon believe plants have songs - healing melodies that only trained shamans can hear after months or years of deep relationship with them. The geometric patterns on their textiles aren't just art - they're visual maps of these plant songs, readable by those who understand the language.
Each plant is a healer with its own intelligence, teaching methods, and wisdom to share - the shaman is merely the conduit.
We've lost this understanding in the West, seeing plants as resources rather than teachers. But what if the chamomile in your tea, the roses in your garden, and the elder trees in our hedgerows are all trying to communicate something profound? Something that may help us all grow?
Our latest blog post explores some of the greatest sacred plants of the world - from British garden herbs to the profound medicines of ancient traditions.
