Getting your shit together is hard.
Kunstrat is here to help navigate the doom of German bureaucracy to access benefits you're entitled to! The Künstlersozialkasse (KSK) is a form of social security for freelance artists and publicists.
In short, it covers half the cost of your monthly insurance and provides you with retirement and nursing care. For freelancers, it can be a significant financial safety net, but the application process can be daunting and is inaccessible for most people.
Kunstrat is a play on the German words Kunst for art and Rat for advice or counsel—in this case for artists from an artist to help guide you through the murky waters of German bureaucracy to access the resources that will make your life easier.
Kunstrat is the project of Harley Aussoleil, who also works as a curator, researcher, and artist based in Berlin.
Since 2020 she has led workshops for other artists on joining the KSK. She has been part of an instructional video on the KSK and taught workshops at Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK) and Artists Pilots.
