Moor Wild Ensemble is a collective of women and non-binary folk creating art and performance work that centres relationship, the entanglement of humans with nature and the paradoxes of modernity.
We are a group of activists, artists, dancers, singers, weavers, connectors, facilitators, makers and creators looking to explore the wound of separation that underpins the polycrisis, through different forms of creative expression. We like to describe ourselves as “Nature loving Dartmoor wildlings that care deeply for the world and who also love to rave.”
We make work that aims to enchant and reawaken wonder with the natural world, telling new yet ancient stories of our entanglement whilst acknowledging the role we each play in contributing to our current harmful systems. We make work that speaks to this time of polycrisis and climate and ecological breakdown, and the need for humans to see our interdependence with each other and the more-than-human world. We explore the paradoxes and discomfort of these times in a relational way, attempting to sit in a space of un-knowing together with each other rather than claiming we have the answers. All of this underpins our multidisciplinary research and deeply collaborative approach.
Since May 2023 we have been gathering on Dartmoor to research and develop performance work to explore our connection with these lands, rooted in our relationship with ourselves, each other and the world around us. Through our collaboration together we discovered we long to unhook from capitalist forms of creativity, instead making artistic work that is slow, relational and process oriented and specifically for the ‘female gaze’.
