Hi there,

Gaia here! This week I have had the great pleasure of interviewing Bryoni Bee, our resident womb healer, shamanic witch and wise woman, sharing her own personal journey with her womb, and 3 great steps for how to start working with your womb if you're totally new to this work.

Bryoni has many incredible offerings coming up which you can find out about at the end of the interview.

Let's dive in.

What drew you to learn about Womb Work?

My journey with the Womb began, before I had my first bleed.

I was taken to the doctor where I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries. Two weeks later I received my menarche where many years of excruciating pain ensued.

With a further diagnosis of endometriosis, in my final year of university, I was exhausted. So I decided for my final project to devote my art to ritual, to process the grief that I felt within my body.

What unfolded, was the birthing of a creative voice I didn’t know existed in me before, and I felt an energetic force take over - I was enraptured by the voice of my Womb.

How do you see Womb Work fitting in to deconstructing systems of oppression and creating more wholeness in our society?

A mentor of mine once said to me: “one of the most empowering things a woman can do, is validate her own knowing and intuition.”

In society that is based upon a linear view of progress - by returning to an intuitive, body-led, and earth-based consciousness - we dismantle the systems of oppression from within - recognising the natural cycles of life, death and birth that are averted in mainstream culture.

Can you describe a breakthrough moment in your journey - a point where everything changed?

After riding a really challenging year with a pregnancy release - I came across the book Yoni Shakti by Uma Dinsmore Tuli. I couldn’t really comprehend the book at the time, but somehow felt I needed to meet this powerful woman. Stepping into my first Womb Yoga training later that year, I was in a circle of about 50 women - and pretty much all I did for those 5 days was cry.

What I discovered in that place, is that beyond all the teachings - there is a deep need to feel.

Sharing our stories, and witnessing each other in our joy, our grief, our rage, our courage. That this is one of the most potent medicines of all.

What 3 top tips would you give to folks wanting to develop a deeper relationship to their Womb?

These tips could almost be done in stages, as a daily practice to connect with the Womb space.

1. Slow down, take time to be, listen and simply breathe with your awareness at your Womb.

There is a saying in inner alchemy traditions - where awareness goes, energy flows

Simply bringing your attention to the Womb, amplifying this with your breath - energy begins to flow there, and you may even feel little pangs in your ovaries, or sensations in your uterus as you do this - I often do!

You may also discover emotions, stories or doubt arise as you do this, but like any relationship, it takes time and trust to open up. Through regular connection with our Wombs, we begin to trust what we feel when we encounter this space, and understand the language with which our Womb speaks.

2. Sound, hum, tone, move, shake, spiral - give voice to your Womb through the vessel of your body

There is a profound connection between the throat, larynx and the womb, pelvis.
They both physically resemble each other - as you can see from the images, but they are also energetically linked. When you relax your jaw, so does your pelvic floor.

By allowing sounding, humming, toning, groaning, howling, singing, shaking, spiraling - and exhaling deeply - we are giving space for desires to be expressed through this space, in turn creating space for more energy, more aliveness to flow.

In the work of Dr, Christine Northrup, she also makes the connection between unexpressed emotions, and stagnation in the Womb - which can lead to womb health conditions such as endometriosis and fibroids.

Through devoted action towards giving space to feel and move through the emotions that may be held there, we can awaken a deeper relationship with our Womb, and the ever changing inner landscape.

3. Create, create, create!

The language of the Womb is creativity. It is the place from which life is birthed, in all its forms - whether that’s through art, poetry, music, nature connection, altar building or even children. Expressing  the Womb puts us in deeper tune with that intuitive voice that allows us to lead our lives from a place of authentic connection and trust.

I have many more tips I can share, but this is a good starting point for those beginning on this journey…
