Hi there,
Last week we introduced you to iboga - the ancient Bwiti plant medicine that stops opioid cravings in their tracks. This week, the President of the United States signed an Executive Order to fast-track it.
Trump's order directs the FDA to expedite psychedelic drugs that have received Breakthrough Therapy designation, opens a Right to Try pathway for veterans to access ibogaine and other investigational treatments, commits $50 million to match state psychedelic research programmes, and instructs the DEA to begin rescheduling reviews once Phase 3 trials are complete.
It is the most substantial federal action on psychedelics in US history. And it came from a Republican administration. (Reportedly it began with a text from Joe Rogan. Trump's reply: "Sounds great. Want FDA approval? Let's do it.") But no matter your politics, this is big news.
It's a strange and complicated moment. For those of us who have watched this field develop slowly and carefully for years, the speed is dizzying. And for those worried about what happens when plant medicines get caught up in pharmaceutical pipelines, political branding and stock market surges - those concerns are just as valid now as they ever were.
This is less a transformation of US psychedelic policy and more a targeted acceleration of existing pathways - the deeper questions of access, indigenous sovereignty, and what wise cultural integration actually looks like remain almost entirely untouched. The mainstream is arriving. Which makes the work of building the right culture around these medicines more urgent than ever.
That conversation is exactly what we exist for.
