If you've been mushroom foraging before, you know the joy – the hours in the fresh air, the time spent changing rhythm and scanning the forest floor – and then the rush as you spot a mushroom, and the utter delight when you discover it is edible and can be brought home for dinner!

So you've got the basics covered, and you can tell a porcini from a deathcap – but what now? There are an estimated 10,000+ species of mushrooms in Europe, of which hundreds are considered edible or medicinal. Of course, many of these are better left to the seasoned experts – but it's absolutely possible to widen your fungal horizons beyond the standard foragers' haul.

Blewit, giant polypore, saffron milkcap, amethyst deceiver, shaggy parasol, devil's snuffbox, charcoal burner – the list of delicious lesser-known yet still easy-to-identify edible wild mushrooms goes on and on!

Join Simka (they/them) for an adventure into the forest around Hohen Neuendorf, where we will get acquainted with the extraordinarily delicious edible & medicinal wild autumn mushrooms growing in this area.

This is not an advanced tour and you don't need to be an experienced forager, but some prior knowledge will be assumed. Along with our smaller group size, this will give us loads more time and opportunity to deeply explore the forest and hopefully come away with some really exciting finds.

Pre-requisites: You can comfortably identify at least 2-3 common edible mushroom species; you're familiar with the basics of how mushrooms grow and you know what mycelium is and hopefully what ‘mycorrhizal’ means; you know where to look for a ring on a mushroom; hopefully you have some idea of how to recognize an amanita (such as a fly agaric or deathcap) and a bolete (such as a porcini or birch bolete).

If you're not sure what level you're at, try an all-levels tour first. If you've come to a previous mushroom tour and are ready for the next step, this one is for you!

The tour will take us through beautiful forest scenery, including past a 500-year-old oak tree and a forest lake. We will have plenty of time to relax, explore, and take in the serene surroundings as well as answer all your questions about mushrooms!

When: Sunday October 2tth, 11:30 - 15:00
Where: Frohnau Forest, near S-Bahn Hohen Neuendorf (~ 8km walking in total)
Cost: Sliding scale 55€ / 45€ / 35€ or pay what you can

Attendance is limited to 8 people, so registration is required!

The meeting and ending point for the tour are accessible with public transportation. The exact meeting point, along with what to bring, will be sent via email after registration. Don't forget to read your confirmation email carefully.

A note on pricing & philosophy:

I offer my foraging tours with some sliding scale / pay-what-you-can tickets, because it's a deep value of mine that this learning – which radically connects us with ourselves, the land, and one another – should be accessible for everyone.

However, I do rely on this income!

That means: if you have the means, please pay the full fee, or more (paying more allows more subsidized spaces for those who aren't currently able to pay as much!)

If you don't have the means, please feel fully invited to pay whatever you can.

And if you want to come, but genuinely cannot afford any extra expense, reach out to me directly for a 100% discount, no questions asked. I have absolutely been there, I see you, and I want you here.

Please note: I am currently only able to offer a certain number of supported access/pay-what-you-can tickets for each tour, because this is my full-time job and I do rely on this income. If you don't see any left, I hope you'll join me for the next tour instead!

I'm trying to do things differently, because it matters to me. Please join me in the complexity of building a better, more equal world!

Registration and cancellation:

Once you register for the workshop, you'll receive an email with all details on the exact meeting location as well as what to bring.

The event will go ahead regardless of the weather. The plants and mushrooms don't mind if it's wet!

If you can't make the event, you may cancel by email up to 48 hours in advance. This ensures another participant can take your place. Refunds for cancellations within 48 hours of the event are not possible.
