In a world where every gesture and posture is shaped by societal norms, how often do we truly listen to the instinctual wisdom of our bodies? Based on How to Be Feral: movement practices to re-wild your body, this course invites you to explore and dismantle the deeply ingrained habits of how we move and relate to our bodies in order to reconnect with our primal, feral selves.

Over the course of 10 weeks, you'll explore various practices designed to disrupt your ingrained notions of "proper" human movement. Each week focuses on a different aspect of feral movement, challenging you to question and relax the constructed ideas you have about your body and its capabilities.

You will be guided through practices that ask you to question the way specific body parts—like your spine, pelvis, or head—should move and behave. How can you let your body lead, rather than allowing cultural conditioning dictate your movement? Through exploratory exercises, we’ll disrupt the learned “rules” of symmetry, balance, and appropriateness. By moving from within, without judgment, you’ll uncover new ways of experiencing your body, releasing its full potential.

Through guided exercises and movement explorations, you'll become increasingly aware of the limits that social and cultural conditioning have placed on your physical expression. As you progress, you'll learn to trust your body's inherent wisdom, allowing for a deeper integration of mind and body.

This course is not about abandoning rational thought, but rather about fostering a harmonious relationship between your conscious mind and your body's instinctive impulses. You'll discover that being feral is about embracing your full potential as a moving, sensing being and about relaxing your mind’s urge for control.

By the end of the 10 weeks, you'll have developed a new appreciation for your body's innate intelligence and an expanded repertoire of movement possibilities. You'll carry with you tools to continue exploring and expressing your authentic, feral self long after the course concludes.

What to Expect:

  •  Disrupt human habits of movement to rediscover natural, instinctual patterns in your body.
  •  Follow simple movement scores that help challenge and reprogram how you typically move your body.
  •  Engage in pair work—both moving and witnessing—creating opportunities for deeper reflection and integration.
  •  Participate in self-reflection and group sharing to deepen your learning process.
  • Be supported in a non-judgmental, open learning environment that allows for exploration and growth.

Facilitator bio

Claire is a movement artist, filmmaker, herbalist and anthropologist. Her movement practice is based outdoors in dialogue with nature and the more-than-human world. She regularly moves in Hackney Marshes where she has an art project in collaboration with filmmaker Dominique Rivoal who has been filming her moving throughout the changing seasons of this natural landscape in the heart of the city for the last six years. They have built a four screens installation with 3D soundscape called 'We are grass, we are plants, we are Hackney Marshes' from the footage. She is the author of How to be feral: movement practices to re-wild your body, published with Triarchy Press. The workshop, the book and the installation are all the fruits of her committed movement art practice in Hackney Marshes. She has trained extensively with Suprapto Suryodarmo, the founder of amerta movement, Sandra Reeve and Ruth Zaporah, the creator of Action Theatre.

This Workshop is for You If:

This workshop is open to anyone, regardless of prior experience. Whether you’re new to movement practices or have experience with movement, all you need is an open mind and a willingness to explore new and unfamiliar movement possibilities.
