Barnivàle: An Elkenmist Micro Festival of
FOOLING ✦ REWILDING ✦ ESOTERIC LUNACY
✦✦✦
“The Vibes here are immaculate.”
“I can’t believe how weird this got.”
– some words uttered by those who have wandered into Elkenmist and returned
Welcome to Barnivàle! a micro-festival devoted to the trifecta of The Sacred Fool, Grassroots Ecology and Mystical Transcendence. Barnivàle is an ode to Elkenmist - a loving home to sheep, chickens, mushrooms, transformative retreats, eco-somatic rituals, and land-to-human-to-animal symbiotic relationships. Our micro-festival will be like a gushy volcano of primal Elkenmist life force: fool archetype clown-trickster vibecraft, regenerative agriculture / ancestral skills, and transcendental mystical esotericism.
What to Expect?
- Erratic dance
- Mask making (and a masquerade)
- Mytho-poetic LARPs
- Kundalini yogic ascensions
- Astrology and Tarot readings
- Co-created spontaneous offerings
- Rewilding nature walks
- Action Theatre workshops (a form of improvisational physical theatre)
- Barnyoneering rappelling gravity tests
- Sublimely silly campfires
- Gourmet Farm-to-table meals with locally sourced meat and veggies
- A general sense of well being in spite of the absolutely unfathomable tragedy of our world’s trajectory
Logistics
When
The festival begins in the evening of Thursday, Sept 4th and participants are welcome to arrive earlier in the day to setup camp. The festival ends on Sunday afternoon with a closing brunch.
Food & Accommodation
The festival will be providing participants with fresh farm-to-table, organic feasts each day. A welcome dinner will be served on Sept 4, and a departure brunch on Sept 7. Three meals will be prepared in the days between. The food hosting team will prioritize local and organic ingredients when possible, and vegetarian options will be available. If you have further dietary needs, let us know when you register and we'll do our best to accommodate.
In the spirit of co-creation, participants are expected to contribute to helping prepare a meal and/or cleaning up afterwards.
Participants staying on-site will need to camp in our spacious campground. Amenities include shared bathroom facilities with hot shower, flush and non-flush toilets, as well as a wood-fired sauna we love to fire up during events!
Contact Sara at Elkenmist (elkenmist@gmail.com) if you have any questions or want any help planning your accommodations!

Where
On the lands of Elkenmist, 90 minutes northwest of Portland, Oregon in Skamokawa, WA 98647, United States (Map). Venue address will be shared with registered participants.

Financial Transparency
Expenses include purchasing food and materials for the camp, paying Elkenmist for use of the venue, and paying support staff for preparing and running logistics for the event. And money made from this event will go towards the ongoing regenerative farm and forestry efforts of Elkenmist.
We've tried to make this event as financially accessible as possible and hope to offer this event as No One Turned Away for Lack of Funds. If you are able to purchase at the “Financially Abundant” ticket tier, it makes it possible for us to subsidize the cost for other participants who may be experiencing a financial burden.
For participants who aren’t able to afford attending at the lowest financial tier, please contact us about work-trade arrangements at elkenmist@gmail.com
