THE EXHIBITION WILL BE OPEN from Friday 24th to Weds 29th January 2025, 10am to 6pm. IT'S FREE AND DROP-IN, NO NEED TO BOOK TICKETS.
The Exhibition: Reclaiming The Wild Body is an exhibition of work by Gwen Williams. The exhibition presents a collection of movement and body-based work that explores how our bodies are microcosms of the macrocosm, connected to, and inseparable from the environments we reside in. How our bodies, as moving, breathing organisms, are always interacting and responding to our surroundings, yielding into them, tensing away from them, becoming part of them. The work investigates themes of connection to self and to ‘the earth body’, as well as feelings of separation and disconnection. It explores the personal, the transpersonal and the socio-political. The work enquires into power and reclamation, reclaiming the wildness of the body from a consumer culture of disconnection. Highlighting a link between the objectification of the body with the commodification and degradation of the earth, challenging the Cartesian separation of mind from matter, humans from nature, the rational from the emotional. Reclaiming our bodies as a sacred part of a bigger magnificent whole.
Workshop:
Wild Body Lab – Music and Movement Exploration. Saturday 25th Jan, 7.30 to 9.30pm.
