Drawing From The Well Within

You’re warmly invited to our second Folk & Fire in the heart of North London, where music weaves together with the timeless craft of sacred storytelling.

Featuring Norwegian storyteller Kristin Holand and musician USTAVI, also the host of JamArabia. The night is hosted by Sacred Storytelling teacher Samantha Rose and space holder  Kary Stewart, who will also be offering their stories.

This evening will centre around the theme: ‘Drawing From The Well Within’. Come ready to dive into the depths of the watery landscapes that dwell within us through original stories. What secrets might they hold? And what wisdom longs to be shared?

If you’re longing to gather with like-minded people and be nurtured by stories, songs, and the warmth of shared space this winter, Folk & Fire is for you. We can’t wait to welcome you!

Storytellers on the night

USTAVI is a Syrian violinist from Aleppo, renowned for his dedication to exploring and modernizing the sound of the Arab violin. Born into a family with a rich musical heritage, Bassel began playing the violin at the age of six and pursued classical music studies until he was 18. His great-grandfather "Subhi Al-Hariri" was a prominent Sufi vocalist (Munshed), embedding music deeply into his lineage. USTAVI's work is characterized by his efforts to bridge traditional Arab music with other musical cultures, fostering engagement and understanding among diverse audiences. His projects reflect a deep connection to his roots and a commitment to presenting an authentic representation of Arab culture through music and storytelling.
After growing up on a farm in the artic part of Norway she has spent her adult life working as a contemporary dancer and actress. Six years ago she moved back to her island in the north and dedicated herself to recieving the songs and stories of her ancesteal lands. Her passion is to bring back ancient wisdom.
Folk & Fire co-host Kary Stewart:: Peruvian by birth and British by upbringing I began to return more regularly to the motherland about 15 years ago. In the myths and creation tales of indigenous wisdom holders of Latin America, and in the call of nature, I  found truths forgotten by many. These experiences and my work as a Kundalini teacher, have inspired me to  tell stories that bridge cultures and spark remembrance of our true natures.
Folk & Fire co-host Samantha Rose: Rooted in a lineage of storytelling from her mother and great-grandmother, Samantha has refined her craft under the guidance of renowned storytellers Martin Shaw and David Novak. For the past 10 years, Samantha has performed at festivals, in boardrooms, classrooms, and around fires. She has gone onto teach others the art of Sacred Storytelling in her 9-month apprenticeship. She is deeply inspired by how stories can lead us back to a profound connection with an animate earth.
