Moor Wild Ensemble is a collective of women and non-binary folk creating art and performance work that centres relationship, the entanglement of humans with nature and the paradoxes of modernity.
We are a group of activists, artists, dancers, singers, weavers, connectors, facilitators, makers and creators looking to explore the wound of separation that underpins the polycrisis, through different forms of creative expression. We like to describe ourselves as “Nature loving Dartmoor wildlings that care deeply for the world and who also love to rave.”
We make work that aims to enchant and reawaken wonder with the natural world, telling new yet ancient stories of our entanglement whilst acknowledging the role we each play in contributing to our current harmful systems. We make work that speaks to this time of polycrisis and climate and ecological breakdown, and the need for humans to see our interdependence with each other and the more-than-human world. We explore the paradoxes and discomfort of these times in a relational way, attempting to sit in a space of un-knowing together with each other rather than claiming we have the answers. All of this underpins our multidisciplinary research and deeply collaborative approach.
Since May 2023 we have been gathering on Dartmoor to research and develop performance work to explore our connection with these lands, rooted in our relationship with ourselves, each other and the world around us. Through our collaboration together we discovered we long to unhook from capitalist forms of creativity, instead making artistic work that is slow, relational and process oriented and specifically for the ‘female gaze’.

A performance full of heart, poignancy, humour, play and a wealth of creativity - from music to costumes to clowning dance to dialogue. A unique exploration into our relationship with the ecologies we live with and amongst. Grounded in deep reverence whilst also offering political questions about how deeply connected the exploitations of women and the earth are.

What a glorious feast for the wild spirit. Feeling topped up and inspired by this animist whirlwind with the land, sea and sky. I loved it all - the ingenuity, the cheekiness, the creativity, the play, the sincerity. I want to go again!

This was a fantastic multi sensory experience. It was moving, funny and inspiring. It managed to weave many different threads into one coherent performance. Although it must have taken so much work, they made it look effortless and seamless.

A wonderful performance that invoked deep, thoughts and meaning. It was a vibrant rollercoaster of emotions with brilliant, cleverly placed humour. Touchingly, powerful yet still managed to raise, laughter. The performers, weaved a certain mysterious magic, I went to sleep that night, and dreamt the encore. Very entertaining I loved it.

This performance was creative, moving, funny and both ecologically and artistically inspiring. The next day I went to Dartmoor and I noticed how the performance had deeply impacted my relationship with the land; I could hear the granite of the Tor speak! Moor Wild Ensemble, you captured it perfectly. Thank you for a beautiful performance.

I was really moved by this show. It's maybe a bit hackneyed to say 'spellbound', but that's basically what it was. I was enchanted; transported out onto the moor and into the ocean and into my body and into a tree and into a rock and into my primal being that somehow transcends it all and transcends time, even - and I felt it all deeply and meaningfully, all whilst chuckling at the humour of it all, as though being led along hand-in-hand, skipping with friends. My congratulations and thanks to this troupe for giving birth to such a precious performance piece. Their gift to us is a stunning, sensory kaleidoscope of nature- and self-connection, which deserves an audience. Many audiences! I thought it was brilliant.
