Hi there,
This week, The Guardian published a striking article revealing that our connection to nature has declined by more than 60% since 1800. The researchers tracked everything from how often words like “river, “ ”moss," and "blossom" appear in books to how much time we actually spend outdoors. It's deeply sobering, really, this idea that we're experiencing an "extinction of experience" with the natural world.
Yet here in London this August, stepping outside offers a different narrative – one of abundance and invitation. It's a bumper year for blackberries, their dark purple jewels heavy on the branches that thread through our city's green spaces. The rosehips are beginning their blush from green to red (they have 20% more Vitamin C than an orange!). And for the extra curious, it's the perfect season to try the energising nettle seed!
From Hampstead Heath to the scrappy edges of railway lines, there's so much waiting to be noticed if we just slow down and look. Every berry you pop in your mouth, every seed you discover, every moment you spend actually touching and tasting the world around you feels like a tiny act of coming home. When you start eating from the landscape around you something shifts. You notice seasons differently and feel the profound ordinariness of being fed by the place you live.
So here's a gentle nudge: take a wander this week. See what catches your eye. Today we're highlighting our upcoming events in nature connection - from our Shroomshop to fungi foraging this autumn, because rebuilding our relationship with the living world isn't abstract work. It starts with muddy knees and purple fingers, with knowing that abundance is still here if we remember how to see it.
As always, you can find all our upcoming events and retreats on our events page.

Help Psychedelic Society find a home
As some of you may remember, before the pandemic Psychedelic Society had its own home in east London. Rents in the city have skyrocketed since then and unfortunately, it hasn't been feasible for us to find a new permanent venue.
However, we miss the feeling of a home base. A place where people can return to again and again and see the same faces. So we're relaunching our search with a new focus - partnership.
If you know of any venues or businesses with extra space (think cafes, yoga studios or anything in between) that may want to partner or split their rent to offer a regular place to hold our London events, we'd love to hear from you at carlotta@psychedelicsociety.org.uk
