Meditations to recognise the Clear Light Mind
We've had several debates recently about whether consciousness is fundamental to reality, or something that is dependent on particular conditions to exist, just like everything else.
This might sound intellectual, but it can make a real difference to how we meditate, and how we approach reality, our selves and each other.
It's a debate that has raged for centuries, and some schools of Tibetan Buddhism posit a resolution. They claim that the irreducible description of reality is the union of luminosity and emptiness. When these aspects are married, the result is nonduality, or nirvana. When luminosity divorces emptiness, the result is duality, or samsara.
Andrew, a scholar and advanced practitioner in this school of Buddhism will review the teachings on emptiness while emphasizing the role of luminosity.
We'll also learn the meditations that nurture luminous emptiness, especially the emerging practice of dark retreat -- where the light of the mind shines most brightly.
What is the light of the mind? How do we get blinded by it? Why is it so central to enlightenment?
