"We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started - and know the place for the first time." - T.S. Eliot
Hi there,
We live in a culture that prizes the new. The next retreat, the next ceremony, the next breakthrough. There's an almost addictive rhythm: peak experience followed by ordinary life, which starts to feel dull by comparison, which drives us back toward the next peak. Only we've got it backwards. The experience, however profound, is the beginning, not the end. It can only show you what's possible - you still have to make the journey.
And that journey is called integration. The word comes from the Latin integer - meaning whole, complete, intact. The same root gives us integrity. To integrate an experience is to bring into fully into you, to make it part of a new, transformed whole.
This is true far beyond psychedelics. Grief, love, illness, a year abroad, a 3am revelation - any formative experience fades without integration, slowly overwritten by old habits and old fears. Without time, space, and the support of others, we rarely have an adequate container in which to hold what an experience has opened up. That container - the people, the conversations, the practices, the community - matters as much as anything that happened in the experience itself. And it can be a long road.
That's why we've decided to offer free spaces to Psychedelic Society members at each of our monthly online integration sessions - wherever you are in the world. This is a space to bring whatever is still alive in you: something confusing, something that changed you in ways you're only beginning to understand. You don't need a recent experience. Integration is a lifelong practice. We hope you'll join us.
