Hi there,

We tend to talk about The Self as if there’s only one of us in there.

One true self. One set of desires. One coherent identity we’re meant to discover, understand and somehow stay faithful to. We’re often encouraged to be consistent and to resolve our contradictions. Psychological wellbeing is imagined as a process of becoming more unified - of bringing the disparate pieces of ourselves into one stable identity.

But most of us are much messier than that.

Part of us wants closeness, while another part wants to run. Part of us wants to take a risk, while another wants to stay safe. We can feel confident and insecure, generous and resentful, excited and terrified - sometimes all in the same Friday morning.

Internal Family Systems (IFS), starts from the idea that this doesn’t mean anything has gone wrong. It understands the mind a bit like a family: we’re all naturally made up of different “parts”, each with their own fears, needs, habits and ways of trying to protect us.

The goal isn’t to become one perfectly coherent person. It's to build a relationship with each of those parts and get them working in harmony.

We’re exploring this idea through two upcoming events on IFS, parts and psychedelics - one shorter introductory session, and one deeper four-part course looking at how IFS can support preparation, psychedelic experiences and integration.

We'll be led by Michelle Glass - a Certified Level 3 IFS Practitioner, an Oregon-licensed psilocybin facilitator and an alternative counsellor based in Eugene, Oregon. She has 20 years of experience with IFS and has completed more than 380 hours of direct study with Richard Schwartz, PhD, the founder of the IFS model.

Longing for more meaningful connection?

Dr Rosalind Watts spent years exploring why connection to ourselves, each other, and the natural world feels so nourishing, why it is so essential to our wellbeing, and why it can be so difficult to maintain in modern life.

ACER is our way of bringing connection back. It's a year-long online container built on real community; a space to speak honestly, be witnessed, and not carry things alone. Whether you're processing a psychedelic experience or simply want more community in your life, ACER offers structure, belonging, live expert talks, Q&As, creative practices, and a rich resource library available anytime.

If you're craving that kind of connection, apply to join ACER today. We start October 1st.
