There are patterns in our personal and professional lives that don’t always begin with us.
When a tree is struggling, we don’t look only at one damaged leaf. We consider its roots, the soil, the weather and everything around it.
That is a systemic view.
Family and Systemic Constellations brings this wider view to human lives. It explores how we are shaped by family, ancestry, culture, community and working life.
Through family experience, epigenetics and unconscious loyalties, gifts and burdens may pass from one generation to the next. We may carry something that did not begin with us, repeat a pattern or take a place or responsibility that is not truly ours.
This is not about blame, forgiveness or fixing what is “wrong” with you. We meet what emerges with compassion and curiosity.
Everyone who belongs has a place. When what has been forgotten or excluded is acknowledged and reincluded, a more natural order may return. People can take their rightful places and movement may become possible where something has felt stuck.
Constellations are a remembering practice: remembering that we do not exist in isolation and that our individual story belongs within a larger whole.
For those familiar with psychedelics, this may resonate as another way of widening awareness beyond the individual self. No psychedelic experience is required.
What happens during the circle?
We will usually have time for two constellations. Anyone wishing to bring an issue can put their name forward. If necessary, names will be drawn at random.
You may bring an issue to be constellated, represent within another person’s constellation, witness what unfolds or choose not to participate at a particular moment.
You do not need to know your whole family history or arrive with a perfectly formed question. You might simply bring something that feels stuck, unclear or repeatedly shows up in your life.
When representing, you may be invited to stand in for a person, relationship or other element within someone’s wider system. It is not acting or role-play. You simply notice any sensations, emotions, words or impulses that arise. There is nothing to perform, interpret or get right, and you can decline or step out at any time.
Representing and witnessing can be just as meaningful as bringing your own issue, often offering unexpected insight or resonance with your own life.
Why return?
Many people return because of the connection, support and insights they receive.
You do not only come to work on yourself. You take part. You are a part.
Your presence supports the circle, while the circle offers a place to reconnect and receive support. It reminds us that none of us exists or carries everything alone.
Before Joining
Family and Systemic Constellations is not a replacement for therapy. It can sit alongside therapeutic work, and many therapists refer clients when they recognise that an issue may have systemic roots. Therapists and other practitioners also attend the circles themselves.
This work is not suitable for anyone currently experiencing an acute or destabilising mental health difficulty. If you are unsure whether the circle is appropriate for you, please contact Katie before booking.
