Mars is an inter-disciplinary artists who is greatly inspired by the story of divinity told through the lens of creative expression. Her work is often heavily loaded with myth, parable and symbol to bring forth deeper stories that can only be told through these means.
Mars believes drawing and the process of making art to be a meditative practice that can help facilitate discipline, patience and attention to life through observation. She truly believes it strengthens one’s connection to self and initiates a conversational relationship between the inner and outer worlds.
She graduated from Kingston University in 2016 with a First Class Honours in Illustration and Animation, with an added Honours for completing one year in Switzerland as an exchange student looking at printmaking as an animation process.
During University studies and later when practising as a sponsored resident artist at Evans and Tate winery in Australia, Mars specialised in printmaking, book binding and fine dot work imagery that discussed the cycles of nature.
To date, her work seeks to reconnect us with our innate intuition and personal myth, where industrialisation, technological advancement and the internet have created an illusion of it being a far fetched concept. She lives and breathes her work as a personal process of integration, understanding and journey with which the beauty of story and image sail together as boat does with ocean.
Currently she is working on an exhibition that will take place in March 2025 which seeks to represent as a piecing together of the last 10 years of practice and personal evolution. She is completing a short story that will be accompanied by a series of images seeking to express more deeply the stories told in her hand bound books.
She is working and practising in Totnes, Devon frequently selling work online and in person at the local markets.
