A three-day cross-cultural gathering between Ugandan Tonduism practitioners with those of us reigniting practices in the UK to honour our ancestors & this living Earth.
In Uganda, tribal traditions that allow direct communication with the Earth and with ancestors were commonplace until the missionaries caem through. The Tonduism practitioners are finding the old ways, the old practices and bringing them back. These practices use herbs and repetative drumming as a gateway to the trance state that enables the ancestors to possess them and speak directly through them.
In the UK, we are further removed. We are reconnecting with herbs and folklore and learning from peoples around the world to find our way back to a culture that puts devotion with the Earth at the centre of decision making.
By linking between cultures we allow people in Uganda to see that the old ways are powerful, that we in the West want to learn them, that what they have in Africa is special and they shouldn't cast it aside for a false Western ideal. And we in the UK can feel directly the power of these shamanic practices, to bare witness to a human directly channelling spirit in a ceremonial setting. It opens our hearts and minds to what is possible.
This will be a powerful exchange, but also a simple one. Come as you are, and share a warm meal by the fire.
What to expect:
- Land blessings & Ash tree blessings
- Songs & stories around the fire
- Ancestor ceremonies (ancestor possession is commonplace in Ugandan Shamanism so expect this to happen!)
- Singing in caves
- Live music & stories by the fire
- Sound & healing offerings (bring offerings for both humans and the land. This may be 1:1, something to share as part of a circle, or an offering for a group)
- Two nights of stunning riverside camping (no showers, compost toilets)
- Shared meals included (simple, vegan rice and dahl, but bring other food to share and to cater for your dietary needs)
We look forward to weaving of cultures, spirit, and place with you!
Please note that this event is super grassroots. The intention is that everyone will help out to make it flow, contributing in the field kitchen, tending fires and supporting each other. We will be outside all weekend with limited shelter, compost toilets and no showers. Please only join is this will be manageable to you. There are a very limited number of campervan spaces, reserved for people with health challenges.
