This workshop will examine how language impacts the intersections of our lived experiences and focus on affirming positive migration narratives as part of Migrants' Rights Network's Word Matter campaign. Through an interactive and participatory session, we will gather together for learning some ways that we can uplift and celebrate narratives around migration that are anti-oppressive. We will acknowledge some challenging language terms from the Words Matter campaign and how they are harmful to some communities, as well as ways to use terms that are inclusive and respectful of migrant experiences.
Our venue is a local migrants' centre in Haringey near Turnpike Lane. You can find out more about them here.
We will be identifying challenging migration narratives and turning them into positive stories, acknowledging the role of power and privilege whilst also sharing stories of liberated migrant experiences.
This session will be delivered in English. If you need an interpreter or translation, please let us know via email here. The facilitators can support the discussions with other languages such as Amharic and Tamil.
