Earth Rhythms is a 6 week online learning journey that explores themes around the seasons, cyclical living, regenerative cultures, burnout and resilience. It is a radical reimagining of what it means to live life connected with the cyclical rhythm of nature and a space to explore the practices that help us lead lives of nourishment in ways that honour and connect us to the earth.
This learning journey is a sanctuary for you to show up exactly how you are; tired, alive, grieving, joyful. A non-linear space to discover who we are when we wander, dream and imagine.
This approach weaves together embodiment, creativity, ritual, nature connection and activism to help uncover the pathways that might lead us towards post-colonial, post-growth and post-capitalist ways of being in relationship with ourselves, each other and the world.
It is a space to begin unlearning and find out what pleasure and generative forces exist beyond the pathology of productivity.
“I'd been experiencing chronic burnout from my activist work and lifestyle which left me feeling deeply exhausted and hopeless. I'll never forget where we were or Alana's compassionate and courageous facilitation in moving me to realise and reflect on how I was not only harming myself but reproducing the very dynamics my activism was trying to dismantle.” - Vanessa Faloye, Workshop Participant
Course Overview
This learning journey is designed for you to slow down, reflect, connect with yourself, deepen your understanding and relationship with nature, and support you to build generative practices.
Over six weeks we will move through the different seasonal energies as a framework to help us explore our relationship to the cycle of the year, inviting an approach of enquiry, curiosity and learning.
We’ll explore practices that can help us connect with nature and our own embodied experience, plus some tools that support us to bring cyclical energies into our lives.
You will receive a cyclical learning journal that offers prompts and practices as a resource to accompany our journey and deepen your own cyclical living enquiry.
This work is deeply inspired and influenced by Bringing it Home, 8 shields, as well as the work of Adrienne Maree Brown and her books Emergent Strategy and Pleasure Activism.
This is space and journey is for all genders and none.
Structure
Monday 22nd March
Week 1: Introduction & Welcome
Our first week is about building the foundations for our learning journey together. We’ll get to know one another, explore why we are showing up for this journey and what our intentions are. We’ll also have an opportunity to understand more about our existing relationship with time and the cycles. This session also falls close to the Spring Equinox so we will find a way to connect in with the current season's energy.
Monday 29th March
Week 2: Spring
Our second week is Spring and is connected to the East, Air, Mind, Sunrise and Birth. This session will explore how to create the “bursting forth” energy of spring through playful exercises and the invitation to radically reimagine our relationship to the cycles.
Monday 5th April
Week 3: Summer
In our third week we will connect with Summer and it’s affinity to the South, Fire, Energy, Noon and Adolescence. We will explore the concept of perpetual summer and look at how we can create balance and connection with summer in a grounded embodied way as we create space for the practices of emergence and wandering that help us be in the right relationship with the summer.
Monday 12th April
Week 4: Autumn
Week four sees us connect to Autumn and the direction of the West alongside Water, Emotions, Sunset and Adulthood. During this session we will create the space to be in ritual together and learn about grief tending practices, and their role in maturing as adults. We’ll connect with the element of water through movement and find ways to appreciate each other and share our story.
Monday 19th April
Week 5: Winter
In week 5 we’ll be connecting with Winter, the North, Earth, Body, Night-time and Elderhood. This will be an opportunity to explore how rooting into our pleasure and our bodies can support us to be with winter energy. We’ll explore the role of Elderhood and the journey towards becoming an Elder as we learn to be with the stillness and slowness of winter.
Monday 26th April
Week 6: Integration
An opportunity for us to; reflect on the past six weeks, express gratitude, harvest the learnings we’ve shared, and be in the mystery of our journey together.
“This entire giant ball of aliveness hurtling through space (you know, Earth), this is nature. The space itself—nature. All we can see and not see, feel and not feel: all nature. And we are all connected to it.” - Sebene Selassie

Facilitator
Alana is an artist, facilitator, performer, ritualist and activist committed to creating regenerative possibilities through exploring what it means to become a doula to systems change. She weaves embodiment, cyclical wisdom, pleasure, grief and artistry into the spaces she holds, drawing on her lifelong curiosity in leading groups. Since 2016 she has run an array of creative retreats including The Warren and Awakening The Wild Woman where she creates experiences for people to explore their creative gifts through community, connection and many practices inspired by theatre & dance. She is founder of Regenerating Rhythms, co-director of The Living Projects, a regenerative land based learning community in Devon, a Host Mentor with Enrol Yourself and a member of the Buckminster Fuller Design Science Studio 2020.
"As a Facilitator she strikes a beautiful balance between holding the structure while attuning and adapting to what is intuitively called for in the moment. One of her many gifts is gently and powerfully helping groups to ground in the ways of nature and the rhythms of the body. She lives and breathes what she teaches, she shares from her inner well of lived experience." - Emma Ashru-Jones

Jassy E. on Earth Rhythms: Spring Equinox | 3 years ago | |
This is the second session I have attended with Alana now, and I have looked forward to it ever since Imbolc. I left the evening feeling so much more at peace, with intention and clarity and rested filled with love and gratitude. Alana's approach is incredibly spacious and generous and I have left both Imbolc and the Spring Equinox so inspired and more mindful of how I care for and follow my own rhythms, and have encouraged those around me to do so, too. I can't wait for the next one. What a beautiful thing to mark time together in this way, even from afar and via Zoom.

A deeply nourishing time that was over in the blink of an eye. There was a real sense of connectedness between the group no matter that we were participating digitally. Alana held us all very gently and shared lots of helpful personal insight.

A beautifully held online event that helped me recognise and appreciate the significance of the Winter Solstice. I look forward to attending similar events in 2022!

Intimate & uplifting! Alana is an incredible space holder and facilitator. I loved how each week she has guided us into the qualities and archetypes of the season through embodied exercises, bringing us closer to our emotions and the more-than-human world! I felt safe to share, connected to the other participants, inspired, and nourished... Thanks!!
