Family Camp at Embercombe

Visit us in the wilding valley of Embercombe this summer. Come and celebrate the joy of being together with community, family and friends around the fire and on the land.

Camp with your family or friends in our simple and beautiful yurt village, sit around the fire, swim in the lake or simply use this as an opportunity to explore the surrounding area of forest and moor.

This is a chance to spend time on the land, in whichever way suits you – enjoying our facilities,  the woods, the meadows, our delicious chef-cooked, plant based food – making new friends or spending time with your own friends and family.

This summer will bring more of the Embercombe community experience to our camps with sharing circles, choir, and opportunities to cook on the open fire or try a new craft.

Is This For You?

  • Do you wish to spend some gentle time in beauty with your loved ones?
  • Do you long to connect to the simple pleasures in life, surrounded by friends and family?
  • Do you long to take some time to reflect on where you are in your life?
  • Do you long for meaningful connection with nature and the changing seasons?
  • Do you long for a sense of belonging and meaning in life?
  • Do you want time to dream?
  • Do you want food to be a pleasure and an adventure that doesn’t cost the earth?
  • Do you want to sit round the fire, feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your skin, swim in the lake, run through the woods, laugh with the children and find once again a deep gratitude for the incredible gift that life is?

What to Expect

From the moment you arrive you will be welcomed by the friendly Embercombe team, who will do all they can to make you feel at home. You will live alongside the other guests on site, creating a village and community feel.

Meals are served at regular times, but the schedule is relaxed allowing you to rest and to create your own activities. You can stay in the valley or travel a little further to the moor or the coast, or walk, cycle and ‘Go Ape’ in our neighbouring forest.

Our delicious plant-based menu is full of soul, designed by our chefs with a passion for ethical and joyful food and a talent for leading you on a sensual cooking adventure. Lunch is provided and simple pack lunches will be available to be eaten on site or taken further afield.

This will be a lightly facilitated event – so whilst there will be some scheduled events you are also free to choose how you would like to spend your time. You will camp as a village in our simple but comfortable yurts.

Things to Do

We will have a schedule of activities on site. These are still to be confirmed but might include:

  • Sharing circles
  • Cooking on the open fire
  • Group games
  • Open mic/storytelling evening
  • Community choir
  • Crafting workshops
  • Wild food harvesting
  • Swimming in the lake

There are a variety of activities in the local area to explore during your summer stay with us:

Haldon Forest Park

We are an easy walk away from Haldon Forest, a Forestry England park with 3,500 acres of woodland which is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the great outdoors. With miles of trails for walkers, runners, cyclists, mountain bikers and horse riders and expansive views and tree top adventures for the kids and orienteering courses.

Go Ape Haldon

Against the backdrop of the stunning Dartmoor, Go Ape Haldon offers adventures in the treetops of Haldon Forest and is a great location for thrill seekers and family adventurers with hilltop to hilltop zip wires and daring high level crossings. You may be deep in the forest but the 360-degree views from your treetop vantage point are spectacular.

Dartmoor National Park

Explore the Moor on Embercombe’s doorstep: Dartmoor really does have something for everyone; history lovers can explore castle ruins and learn about local myths and legends at our museums or on a guided walk, families have plenty of exciting attractions to choose from, while there’s lots of opportunities for rambling over tors, cycling up challenging hills and staying active in the great outdoors.

Local Beaches

Devon is famous for its beaches and there are many close by. The closest beach is at Teignmouth with the lovely Shaldon Beach just across the bridge.

A little further afield you have Budleigh Salterton with its stunning World Heritage coastline and spectacular beach together with the Otter Estuary nature reserve with a wide variety of waterfowl which is one of the few places in the UK where beavers have been reintroduced.
