Join us around the winter fire at Plot 9 Maze Hill for an evening of Songs and Stories. Folk & Fire would like to invite you to listen to the voices of Isobel Jane kimberley, Linda Moylan, Louise Hatch, Jo Girdlestone and Rich (Stories) Sylvester.
Isobel Jane Kimberley has long been a distinctive voice on the UK music scene, she is also the other half of successful folk duo The Kimberleys.
With nine appearances at Glastonbury Festival, five critically-acclaimed albums, and a dedicated underground following, she has built a reputation for fiercely original songwriting and emotionally resonant performance.
Her debut solo release, the Broken Bowl EP, is a deeply personal and beautifully crafted collection, written and produced by Isobel Jane Kimberley
Linda Moylan has been described as a ‘a stunning singer-songwriter, with a voice to die for’. Her latest album ‘The Fool’ was included in At The Barrier’s list of best albums of 2024 and she was nominated for Best Female Artist of 2024 by Fatea.
Linda has worked with folk royalty Phil Beer and collaborated with legendary American-British folk singer Julie Felix. Her most recent album ‘The Fool’ saw her turn her hand to producing. RnR magazine says: “Moylan’s a storyteller through-and-through, her voice shape- shifting into each song to bring it right to the listener’s heart.”
Louise Hatch is a soulful, emotive singer/songwriter, who’s musical influences include country/folk/rock and pop. She sings with the aid of hearing devices that facilitate her re-entry into music after a 14 year sabbatical, allowing her to reconnect with her passion. Louise recently launched her much-awaited solo album ‘Love is the Bridge’ at Mycenae House to a sold-out audience. Louise is a singer, songwriter and author.
Jo Girdlestone’s background is in theatre-making (as a performer, youth theatre leader, director and writer). After becoming a mum in 2009, she picked up her guitar and started writing songs. This lead her initially to Folk Clubs and then to performing her own songs on the live music scene in Greenwich and beyond.
Jo released her first album ‘Somewhere Before’ in March 2021 and a further EP ‘Deep Water’ in November 2021. Both releases are available via Global Fusion Music and Art or via https://www.jowritesongs.com
Rich Stories, a gifted local storyteller, will also join us on the night, telling tales of green spaces and old places.
This event has been put together by Linda Moylan and Andy Millns. All proceeds (after artist travel expenses) will be donated to Plot 9 to support its future as a community venue. Thank you for your support.
Travel info: Arrival
Arrival from 6pm for a 6:30pm start. Plot 9 is in east Greenwich, a few minutes walk from Maze Hill Overground Station which is served by Southeastern and Thameslink trains. You can catch a direct train to Maze Hill from any of: Greenwich, Deptford, London Bridge, Cannon St, Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Farringdon, St Pancras or West Hampstead. Or from the east from Woolwich and beyond.
VIDEO DIRECTIONS: It's a short route from Maze Hill station to Plot 9 but a little bit convoluted so please look at video directions here showing how to get there from Platform 2 of Maze Hill where you'll alight if coming from central London.
It is also possible to travel via North Greenwich and get the 188 or 422 bus, alighting on Trafalgar Road or Woolwich Road and walking up Vanbrugh Hill, turning right onto Restell Close. The space is halfway down the hill on the right. Look for the bright green campervan and the entrance is 10 metres beyond it on the right.
Google Maps pin. Postcode: SE3 7RD
If you're driving then there's usually plenty of free space on nearby Humber Road (2 hrs / free from 6:30pm - so you can park up from 4:30pm and not have to move).
Plot 9 is not (yet) wheelchair accessible.
