CHINMAYA DUNSTER ~
Born in the UK, CHINMAYA DUNSTER is an established recording artist whose music blurs the boundaries between cultures.
After an early musical training in classical guitar, Chinmaya discovered the sarod in 1979, and embarked on a fifteen-year training in Hindustani Classical music under Gurdev Singh in Delhi (leading disciple of Amjad Ali Khan) and then Pt Shekhar Borkar in Pune.
He first travelled to India in 1975 on the overland route. Since then he has spent extended periods there in what he calls his ‘adopted homeland’.
Since his first CD release in 1990, Chinmaya has found a unique way to merge Indian with Western music.
This has drawn accolades from, amongst others, Sir Paul McCartney, who invited Chinmaya to perform at his wedding in 2002.
He has now released 17 CDs on the USA labels www.newearthrecords.com and www.malimba.com and performed with stars such as Israel’s Yair Dalal, Germany’s Prem Joshua and India’s Niladri Kumar.
Chinmaya currently lives in Devon, UK with his partner and teenage daughter.
