The Language of Trust: Creating Connection and Understanding in Challenging times

If you can’t make these dates - Repeat of this course in February!

I wish we had learned this at school!

—expressing emotions and navigating conflicts.

This has often crossed my mind because I consider these skills essential; especially when relationships are tested by life’s challenges.

Winter, for me, is a time for reflection, rest, and renewal. With  a new year commencing, it often brings fresh dreams, longings, resolutions, and fears. Yet this season isn’t just about turning inward—it’s also a time of family gatherings and navigating the complexities of shared moments. For many, this can mean both joy and hidden tensions or unresolved conflicts.

Does this sound familiar? Perhaps you’ve found yourself in those uncomfortable moments, thinking, “It’s just a few days—it’ll pass.” But what if there were a way to move beyond tolerating—to find authenticity, understanding, and connection instead?

In this workshop, we’ll explore a practical and transformative path towards mutual understanding—where every voice matters.
Drawing on the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg, I will guide you assisted by my partner Marla through simple yet profoundly impactful tools that have shaped our own lives. These practices have taught us how to approach even the most challenging interactions with empathy, clarity, and courage.

Through experiential exercises, personal stories, and guided practice we’ll bring to life how to:

  • 🌱 Recognize and express the needs behind your words  & actions.
  • 💬 Listen with empathy, even when emotions run high.
  • 🌟 Transform conflict into opportunities for lasting connection.
  • 🧘 Deepen your self-awareness and reconnect with your values.

This workshop will be held at 175 Bradford Road, in Combe Down, Bath,  a house with a spacious living room for groupwork.

Booking

There are limited spaces in the workshop so please book while making firm commitment to yourself to come. Please contact us as soon as possible if you book a place and find you are unable to attend.

Gift Economy

This workshop is offered in the Gift Economy, which is a way to encourage deeper connection through gratitude and give-and-take. By giving and receiving according to level of resourcefulness and need, there can also be an opportunity to rebalance some of the imbalances in our society.

As a way of life, Elia offers all his working time and energy to his mission of compassionate social change on the level of personal, interpersonal, community, institutional and cultural shift. Donations allow him to sustainably do this with food, shelter and transportation covered.

Many people choose to express appreciation and offer support through donation of money, however please only give with a ‘full yes’ from your heart, as we wish to avoid any transactional guilt or pressure.

Some people would not be able to access courses like this if there is any financial demand, so we encourage you to feel extremely welcome to attend and to ask for financial help if needed, for example for travel costs. Reach us through LanguageOfTrust@outlook.com.

Ideally, donating can come from our own personal choice and desire to give, based on your resources. However, some people understandably ask for a guidance amount and so here is one suggested calculation:

Discount the first £10k of your annual income (including benefits) for basic needs.
Consider donating around £4-£5 per £1000 of annual income above the £10k e.g. someone with an annual income of £25k might give £60-£75.
Scale this up or down depending on factors such as children or other dependents you support, whether you share income with a partner, assets such as owning your home, savings, or if you will receive an inheritance.

You can make a donation online at booking or cash gift on the day.
