TRIPNOSIS: An Introduction to Trance, Shamanism and the Magic of the Deep Mind
Minds turn inwards to the sound of the rattle, the swing of the watch or the geometry of the mandala. Trance moves us between worlds, taking the mage into the imaginal, working magic and bringing back new potentials.
Join transformational hypnotist Danny Nemu for an immersive and informative journey into trance. What has been done with trance in history, from shamanic rituals to Victorian hospitals? What does it feel like, and what can we do with it? How can we incorporate it into our lives going forward?
Take a deep breath, and let’s explore the psychedelic potential of the word…

What is hypnosis?
Many think that hypnosis is about giving over control of your mind to someone else, but the truth is that your mind is already being manipulated constantly, via advertising and the media, in politics and pillow talk - wherever humans use language to communicate. With hypnosis, we can go into trance knowingly and choose how to guide our own minds. Remaining conscious and learning how cognition and imagination work from the inside, we can extend our influence into aspects of ourselves that are usually beyond our reach - our heartbeats, our mental imagery, our learned reactions, even our futures.

Danny's technique
Danny’s approach is unique. After a few years of street hypnosis - helping people forget the number three or think they are Chinese comedians - he came to the conclusion that the most interesting things happen in the depths of the mind, when we all go into trance together, including the hypnotist. He also practises radical openness, explaining the techniques (embedded commands, hypnotic cadence, pattern interrupt etc.) before using them.
The result is quite extraordinary, and much more transformational than getting weird on stage!

What can you expect?
Trance can take you wherever you want to go - a beloved place from your childhood, a landscape from your dreams or the library of the magician. There you can interact with the characters, learn from their point of view and integrate their perspectives into your life. Is there somewhere you'd like to go back to, or sideways to, to help you move forward?
We will explore the basics of hypnosis - first in theory and then in practice - slipping in and out of a deep state of creativity, oiling the hinges of the door to the mystery.
In this session, you will explore how to open up and close down sensitivity and how to access and tweak the control panel of your own unconscious mind. We’ll also be taking a journey into the mycelial web beneath the forest floor to learn a little from our fungal friends about connection.

Our Facilitator: Danny Nemu
Danny has spent over 20 years with the Daime ayahuasca community, including time in the jungle battling a parasite. He is a hypnotist, activist, author and speaker specialising in drugs in the Bible, revelation and politics in science, and the connection between linguistics, neurobiology and cognition. He also co-directs RAIN (Regenerative Agroforestry Impact Network - www.rainreforest.org).

Attending this sharing circle was a powerful experience for me. I got a lot of insights from what others shared and also from the discussions we had during the event and afterwards at the pub. It felt so nourishing to connect with people who find this subject as meaningful as I do. Since the event I’ve noticed feeling quite different to how I was in the days preceding - like an unfolding sense of peace and love. It might not be down to the circle 100% but I do think it has had a significant impact on me. I plan to go back to the circle as often as I can. Thanks to Jess and Danny for facilitating and to everyone else who shared their thoughts and experiences.
