Come and join The Psychedelic Society online for four nights of dining & discussion with other like-minded mushroom enthusiasts, and Dr K Mandrake!
Our chef and host, Dr K Mandrake, is one of the authors of the best selling mushroom growing guide “The Psilocybin Mushroom Bible.” His most recent book “The Psilocybin Chef Cookbook,” focuses on bringing psychedelic mushrooms into the kitchen, and will have you throwing dinner parties that will satisfy both psychonauts and gastronauts alike.
This course will help you navigate some of the challenges around cooking with Psilocybin and contains live recipe demonstrations and discussion around some of the broader aspects of psychedelics for personal and societal growth. Each session will start with a discussion topic followed by a live demonstration, and a Q&A at the end to wrap things up.
The Appetizer (Week One)
Topics: Sourcing psilocybin mushrooms and legal aspects around the world.
Demo: Growing Mycelium and Truffles.
For starters, we’ll be talking about the different ways to source naturally occurring psilocybin, as well as its legal status in various countries. We’ll briefly cover how psychedelics meets policy and how different countries' legal approaches have given rise to different psychedelic models, including retreats in Jamaica and The Netherlands, the decriminalisation movement in the USA, and how research is being conducted in the US and Europe. Taking these factors into account, we’ll look at easy mycelium growing techniques that can be applied to almost any edible/medicinal species, to access the fungal benefits without the need to become a seasoned mushroom grower.
The Starter (Week Two)
Topics: Cooking with psilocybin.
Featured recipe: Electric Kool-Aid.
We’ll look at the different ways you could consume psilocybin in liquid form, from fresh mushroom smoothies to psychoactive tinctures. We’ll take a look at the best available science on psilocybin potency and stability, and discuss which factors are most important when it comes to ensuring dishes prepared with psilocybin retain their magic for as long as possible. We recommend washing this information down with this session’s featured recipe - our Electric Kool-Aid apple and beetroot smoothie.
The Main Course (Week Three)
Topics: Legal vs decriminalisation approaches to psychedelics and other drugs.
Featured recipe: Grilled Cheese Shroomwich.
For our main course, we’ll get our teeth into the socio-political implications of psychedelic medicine. We’ll discuss the differences between legal and decriminalised models of psychedelic access, and consider who might (and might not) benefit from each approach. We’ll also take a look at the idea of “psychedelic exceptionalism” and talk about movements to decriminalise all drugs, not just psychedelics. We find dense topics like these pair great with our equally substantial Grilled Cheese Shroomwich, which we’ll show you how to cook to perfection!
The Desert (Week Four)
Topics: Microdosing.
Featured recipe: Ginger and Lime Truffles.
For dessert, we’ll round off the meal with a chat about microdosing. We’ll look at how microdosing came about, why it’s so tricky to research, and how existing studies have attempted to better understand the effects that small doses of psychedelics can have on mood and cognitive function. For those with a sweet tooth who happen to also be interested in developing their own microdosing routine, we’ll provide our favourite recipe that works great for this - the Ginger and Lime Chocolate Truffle.
Recipes and ingredients will be provided to participants prior to each session so you can cook along with Dr. K Mandrake. If you would like to join the sessions with a partner or small group (as a dinner date) you are welcome to do so!
Dr. K Mandrake is one of the authors of the best-selling The Psilocybin Mushroom Bible: The Definitive Guide to Growing and Using Magic Mushrooms. He earned his doctorate in microbiology in 2014 and he writes about mycology for publications the world over and consults internationally on psilocybin production for therapeutic use.
