London CI Weekender
A 2-day Contact Improvisation Workshop
Whats on offer :
A weekend of movement, exploration, co-collaboration and connection. Diving into the fundamentals & philosophy of Contact Improvisation. The London CI weekender offers space and guidance to engage with the practice, tune into the body & develop the skills that serve us both in the dance and in daily life. Bringing shared inquiry to the foreground to drop deeper through the layers of what is possible through CI.
Each day has a distinct focus, and participants are welcome to attend either day or the full weekend.
Come deepen your connection to the ground, space, and others while gaining tools for (contact) improvisation, jamming, and attuned awareness through the joy of movement.
Saturday: Reaching & Meeting
How can we meet the earth, meet ourselves and meet another?
How is it to be met?
Investigating and understanding mutual meeting as a core part of the dance.
Reaching as a tool to transform into oscillating expansive movers. To expand awareness and expand the ability of the body. Coming away from collapse and into lightness. Effortlessly working with gravity and momentum.
The day will include technical insights and the approach is practice as research. Allowing ourselves to be informed by the dance - discover how to move functionally and fluidly, open to all that's available in the present. Through solo, partner & group exercises we’ll explore reaching and meeting as a shared point of attention.
This day offers a grounding in presence, deep listening, and mutual direction.
Sunday: Elements of the Jam
On Sunday, we move into the world of the jam. We’ll explore how to enter and exit dances, navigate shared space, and respond to each unfolding moment. Through structured improvisation scores and instant compositions, we’ll build tools for the jam, develop adaptability, and co-create through group improvisation.
A container for emergence and spontaneity.
Meet your facilitators
Lily Antonia (She/Her)
Dance & Movement Artist | Facilitator
Lily is a contemporary dance artist, specialising in contact improvisation. She has been performing, teaching and choreographing internationally since graduating from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Working with companies Wired Aerial Theatre, Mad Dogs Dance Theatre, and Company Chameleon. Lily is co-director of contemporary dance and live art company UMAMI-i!-MOVEMENT and co-founder of Contact Improv MCR.
Her approach to CI blends playful exploration with technical clarity. Inviting curiosity, challenging potential and nurturing individual creativity - Lily invites dancers to bring an aliveness to the present. Creating spaces where dancers can listen, trust, and move with intention and spontaneity.
“To cultivate a state of being - in readiness without anticipation... we open ourselves to
all possibilities"
Joshua Jarvis Jones (He/They)
Dancer | Facilitator | Choreographer
Josh is a contemporary dancer and facilitator whose practice is rooted in emotional exploration and embodied connection. Following a time of personal loss, he found dance—especially contact improvisation—as a vital tool for healing, grounding, and rediscovering relationships with self and others.
Trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Josh has performed internationally with artists like Ricardo Buscarini and Madeline Shan, exploring themes of intimacy and identity. His deep engagement with contact improvisation bridges technique and relational psychology, and he shares this through workshops, labs, and festivals worldwide.
Josh co founded *Lean_In*, a nomadic movement series that has grown into the annual retreat *Lean_In_Nature*, inviting people into co-creative, embodied research. He has taught at CI hubs and circus events across Europe. His work invites participants into a dance of authenticity, where movement becomes a meeting place for truth and transformation.
