Ostara is a traditional festival marking the Spring Equinox, a time of balance between light and dark as the days and nights are of equal length. It is one of the eight Sabbats in the Wheel of the Year, celebrated as a moment of renewal and awakening. Ostara is named after the Germanic goddess Eostre, associated with dawn, fertility, and new beginnings.

Celebrating Ostara

🌿 Eggs and Hares: Symbols of fertility and rebirth, eggs represent potential and new life, while hares are linked to the goddess and the vitality of spring. Decorating eggs is a common practice, honouring the changing season.

🔥 Lighting Candles or Bonfires: Representing the growing strength of the sun and the balance of light and dark before the warmth of summer fully takes hold.

🏡 Spring Cleaning and Renewal: Just as nature begins to bloom, this is a time to clear out the old and welcome fresh energy, both in physical spaces and in personal intentions.

🌸 Feasts of Seasonal Foods: Fresh greens, sprouts, dairy, honey, and eggs feature in Ostara feasts, celebrating the reawakening earth and the nourishment it provides.

🌞 Rituals for Growth and Balance: Planting seeds—both literally and metaphorically—honors the fertility of the land and the personal growth we wish to cultivate in the coming months.

Ostara is a celebration of balance and the promise of abundance. It is a time to embrace change, step into new possibilities, and honour the cycle of renewal as the world blossoms into spring. 🌿✨
