Therapy with Substance: in Conversation with Friederike Meckel Fischer

Prepare to be taken on an incredible journey through some of the insights that Friederike has uncovered during her long and colourful career. She will reveal to us lessons she has learnt along the way through her practice as a psychotherapist, exploring fundamentally whether psychotherapy is an essential component of psychedelic therapy. Friederike will cover topics such as polyvagal theory, somatic experience and dissociation, as well as describing the intrinsic healing effects of psychedelics. She will explain exactly what is to be gained by having a guide present during a psychedelic experience, reminding us of the importance of a traditional approach to medicine that has been somewhat forgotten in modern Western culture. So if you’re interested in discovering the tools required of a psychedelic therapist for effective healing, then Friederike’s talk is one you simply can’t miss. 

The format of the event is a 60 min discussion with the moderator, followed by a 45min Q&A session with the audience.

Friederike Meckel Fischer

Psychotherapist and respected author, Friederike Meckel Fischer, is nothing short of a legend within the psychedelic community, her career spanning more than 30 years and beginning as a Holistic Breathwork facilitator working in Germany. In the late 90s, she secretly developed her own style of psychotherapy with psychedelic drugs, but a patient’s betrayal led to Meckel’s arrest in 2009 and she was sentenced to 16 months in prison for trafficking LSD. Although she no longer uses drug-induced methods in her practice today, she educates and inspires the next generation through her psychological counselling and interviews, advocating the integration of psychedelic and non-drug-induced therapy styles for effective healing.
