Welcome to the third edition of Somewhere!
Voted Europe's Best Burn Three Year's in a Row by an Anonymous Committee of Biased Judges
Theme:✨Land of Wonder✨
Within this enchanted Land of Wonder, we rediscover the subtle magics of life, where every moment is an invitation to frolic, play, and create. Surrounded by whimsical curiosities, we embrace communal collaboration; crafting connections that challenge the shadows.
Do you dare to advocate for a world of our collective imagination? Wonderland is yours to create.
🔥 Somewhere is an ongoing experiment on exploring the possible. Burns have always been about pioneering, going against the default, and challenging norms. We continue this tradition at Somewhere, and welcome any feedback and involvement in governance from those who participate in co-creating this experience.
We don't expect this to be for everyone, to make everyone happy. Nowhere is. As is tradition, we invite you to channel judgment into the passion of creating what you do want to see in the world, as we do together, here.
🗺️ May 30th - June 5th, 2024, in the forests of Deão, Portugal [Just north of Porto]

📜 10 Principles
Participation
Get involved! It’s more fun that way.
Self Reliance
You can ask for help, but help yourself first! Plan ahead to set yourself up for success. This means bring everything you need to survive for a week!
Communal Effort
Together we are strong! The more we work together to create, the more magic happens! If you see someone struggling, help them. If you see a problem, it is your problem.
Inclusion
Everyone is allowed at Somewhere and there are no specific criteria that need to be met to attend. The right to be there comes with the responsibility of acting in a way that does not damage or endanger anyone else physically in a deliberate and malicious way and this right can be revoked if the responsibility is not met.
Leave a Positive Trace
Leave the space how you found it or better! This means clean up any MOOP (matter out of place / trash) that you find, don't bring glitter, and be careful not to harm any of the plant life or other life on the property. As a unique experiment with Somewhere - each year there will be opportunities for semi-permanent art installations and structures to be left on-site.
Gifting
We value the act of unconditional gift giving with no expectation of anything in return. A gift with a price is no gift at all.
Decommodification
This event will be free of logos, advertisement, sponsor, cash, credit card, Paypal, Venmo, Revolut, Bitcoin, Doge, Ethereum, and any other means of monetary transactions. Nothing can be bought or sold at Somewhere so best to leave your wallet somewhere safe.
Self Expression
Be yourself and embrace the same in others. Express this in whatever way you feel you want to as long as it does not take away from others expressing this same right.
Civic Responsibility
Somewhere strives to create a safe environment for all attendees. This can only be achieved if all attendees are respectful and abide by the laws laid out by Portugal and the guidelines given by Somewhere.
Immediacy
Embrace now! Perhaps the stories you hold of the past and future are illusory figures that trap you in a world where you can't see what's right in front of you.
🤯What is going on here?!
What
A non-commercial, radically participatory gathering.
An experimental venture to the borders of impossible and implausible.
Somewhere only happens if we make it happen!
* As an experiment in challenging the normalization and socialization of tobacco and alcohol, the grounds and this gathering are alcohol and smoking free.
When
BUILD // May 22th - May 30th.
GATE OPENS // May 30th
EXODUS // June 5th
STRIKE // June 5th - June 7th
Where
An enchanted site in the north of Portugal with an established forest garden and private lake. 45 minutes north of Porto Airport, or 3.5 hours from Lisbon. The nearest stations are Viana do Castelo (bus) / Darque (train)!
Location will be sent in your shmicket confirmation email!
Why
Nowhere’s too dusty.
🏕️ Theme Camps
Theme camps are an integral part of the Somewhere experience. Unlike a typical festival where people camp in a giant parking lot away from the central action at Somewhere the action is everywhere! We encourage people to organize into groups in order to contribute interactive, creative and incredible experiences for your fellow Somebodies!
Whether you build out a space for people to congregate, host workshops or events, or serve coffee every morning no interaction is too big or too small! Get creative and let your wackiest ideas shine through!
*If you are an artist or a member of a theme camp and plan to transport a significant amount of equipment in your vehicle for an public facing installation, you may be eligible for a free parking pass.
🎨Art Installation & Grants
Art is the heart and soul of burn events and we are delighted to be able to provide a canvas to hold your wildest dreams. Please fill out the form to submit your art idea to us. We also provide a limited number of art grants to help and support artists in bringing their amazing creations to Somewhere.
Art Installation & Grants Form
*If you bring that special spark to the event by offering your heart and creativity in various forms or through a specific art project you are contributing with, you are eligible for a reduced price artist ticket.
👷Volunteering
We expect to be able to offer free or discounted tickets for individuals who want to join for build and strike and are willing to go above and beyond to support Somewhere.
We will also release a volunteer schedule of shifts that will need to be filled during the event. We encourage everyone to complete at least one volunteer shift on site. You never know what sorts of new experiences you will have or what new friends you will meet!

💙 Consent
We live in a complex, touch-deprived culture and much of the cultural fringes we together explore here are outside of societal norms around touch.
It is safe to assume that we cannot know the ‘stories’ of the bodies we encounter at Somewhere, no matter how well we think we know those stories.
Proceed consciously and with deep listening. Do not assume that your partner is skilled at setting boundaries and establishing consent and don't assume that touch is always desired.
You are entrusted with the responsibility to communicate your own boundaries, as well as to be sensitive to the verbal and non-verbal boundaries and cues of each person at this gathering.
- Boundaries can change, and consent may be reversed or altered at any time: Permission now is not permission in the future.
- Take extra care around giving your own consent, or accepting the consent of another if you are on psychoactive substances.
- If ever you are uncertain, just ask/tell! It is safest to never assume.
- Feel free to communicate verbally with your fellow Somebodies at any time, especially if there is ambiguity around consent.
- It’s always ok to say “No” or “Stop”. You can always leave an interaction.
- There is no need to apologize for, accommodate, or explain your ‘no’.
💰 Shmickets, Financial Aid & Refunds
If Somewhere is canceled, which will not happen, you will be fully refunded. Otherwise, shmickets are non-refundable.
Please email us at someone@somewhere.pt if you wish to transfer your shmicket from the email address you used to purchase the shmicket with the subject TICKET TRANSFER. In the email, indicate the email & full legal name of the person who is receiving your ticket.
If you attempt to sell or sell your shmicket for more than the cost which you paid, you will receive a lifetime ban from Somewhere </3
If you feel our shmicket price is unaffordable please fill out the form to be considered for a reduced price ticket. We want Somewhere to be accessible and available to all our lovely Somebodies regardless of their economic situation.
🇵🇹 Locals
We feel passionately about integrating into the local culture and our local community. We over a limited number of reduced price tickets to support local engagement with our event. If you are a local resident and are interested in attending Somewhere please email someone@somewhere.pt so we can coordinate getting you access to this reduced price tier. Please note proof of local accommodation will be requested.
🅿️ Parking & Camper Vans
On site parking is limited. Camper van parking is extremely limited.
All cars and campers on site need a parking pass, and there is no off site parking nearby as we are surrounded by narrow, granite roads.
No vehicles bigger than 6.5x2.7x3m. They will not fit and we will ask you to leave.
*If you are an artist or a member of a theme camp and plan to transport a significant amount of shared equipment in your vehicle, you may be eligible for a complimentary parking pass.

🔍 Internet & Phone
There is a cell network of varying speeds throughout the site. You should be able to get an SMS, basic call, or email out at the least. We will not be providing attendees with WiFi access.
🔥 Absolutely No Fire
No fires allowed. It's dry season in a verdant forest, fires are prohibited during this time and we don't want police knocking at the gate or to burn down the mountainside. It should go without saying but this also means that no fireworks will be permitted.
