Open to Summer: Yoga & Herbal Medicine

Sunday 21 July | 1-5pm | Beechwood Club, Fishponds BS16 3TP

Bring focus to your relationship with your inner fire and power to change ❤️‍🔥

Within the body, fire ("agni" in Sanskrit) can be recognised as the vital force: that which activates, drives and transforms us. It is not separate from the fire of the sun that gives energy to and moves the earth. Together, we come to recognise ourselves in summer's great play of light, warmth, energy and transformation!

In the herbal work, qualified medical herbalist Helen White will share how fire energy manifests in the summer plants, and how we can work with this energy for improved health and healing. We will take a deep dive into both the medicinal and esoteric uses of these wonderful summer medicinals. Helen will touch on an ancient, fundamental principal of herbal treatment: healing by opposite or similar action, termed ‘cure by antipathy or sympathy’ by Nicholas Culpeper.

Enjoy herbal tasters and cooling herbal beverages, and learn how to utilise the potent benefits of these plants to make a dream pillow and/or smudge stick, as well as learning how to prepare a herbal first aid essential 🌿

Foraging on the spring season workshop!

We continue to bring environment into body with a yoga practice for all levels, facilitated by 550+ hour trained teacher Hannah Embleton-Smith. In movement, we celebrate summer’s fire and capacity of transformation that opens us to new possibilities. We'll play with elemental mantra, asana and contemplative meditation, recognising our inner fire as our expression of will, power to transform, and shared vibrancy.

To close, we will hold a safe fire ceremony to welcome in transformation, in the belief that rituals of this kind are a human need. An act of shared witnessing, they imbue our desires and paths with meaning.

When we approach with reverence, great things decide to approach us. Our real life comes to the surface and its light awakens the concealed beauty in things. When we walk on the earth with reverence, beauty will decide to trust us.” - John O'Donohue on ritual

About us

Helen has been practising as a community herbalist for the past 8 years, with a firm belief in herbal medicine as “people’s medicine”. She has held a lifelong interest in the healing power of plants, and after years of using herbal remedies for herself and her family, she followed her dream of training as a medical herbalist. Through sharing her knowledge, Helen aims to demystify the preparation and use of herbal medicines and bring them back into everyday use and on our kitchen shelves, where they belong.

Hannah is a 550+ hour trained yoga facilitator, with a practice rooted in non-dual Śaiva tantra. Among her teachers, past and present, are Sam Burkey, Sarah Harlow, Christopher Gladwell, Christopher Wallis, Prem Sadasivananda, Atiya Khan, Becky Szwandt and Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, as well as being guided by the teachings of ancient sages including Vasugupta and Abhinavagupta through the texts.
