Yabá's Gira: Umbanda Workshop & Ceremony w/ Cacao

Sonia Costa, Roça de Ogum (São Paulo, Brazil) & Deya CacaoAmor

Intro

Roça de Ogum is a Terreiro (spiritual house) located in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The group carry out studies and works in the force of Orixá. Their main focus is the study of mediumship, incorporation and the connection with spiritual guides.

They are currently on tour in Europe sharing their studies and rituals, offering an opportunity for all those who seek to know more about the Orixás and the Afro-Brazilian traditions.

Drums have a calling role in Afro-Brazilian religion. Communication is made with the Orixás by the sound and rhythm of the drums. It's a language, a conversation, an exchange of energy.

Yabá's Gira Ceremony

The word Yabá means Great Mother. It's how the feminine Orixás in the Afro-Brazilian traditions are referred to. The Gira is one of the main sacred rituals of the Umbanda and is a spiritual space where the connection to spiritual guides and mentors are opened up. In the Gira, the process of opening contact to the spiritual realm is done with songs, drumming and other fundamentals of Umbanda.

Roça de Ogum

The house of Roça de Ogum was founded in São Paulo in 2017. Directed by Sonia Costa, its foundation is the study of the Orixá force, carrying out works of Afro-Brazilian religions.

About Cacao

Theobromine Cacao is one of the most nutrient rich foods in the world! Cacao aids in longevity and has many powerful antioxidants. Theobromine present in Cacao, dilates blood vessels, relieving stress on the heart, and sharpens the mind.

The tryptophan and tryptamine serotonin present in Cacao, make it a natural antidepressant. Cacao is the only food plant found containing Anandamide which comes from the Sanskrit word Ananda meaning ‘bliss’. Anandamide is known as the chemical of happiness, an endorphin our body produces, giving us feelings of euphoria. Cacao also contains abundant Phenethylamine, a class of biochemicals that our body produces when we are in love.

Cacao enhances the qualities of what is already there, helping us release stagnant emotions creating space for healing and celebration. We will connect with the spirit of Cacao as a Sacred plant medicine and ally, with the intention of connecting to ourselves and each other.
