What does ‘a politics worthy of the human spirit’ mean to you? And what would it look like for you to embody it?

Amidst the manifold global crisis, leadership is more important than ever. And as we begin to appreciate the complex interdependence of everything, the question is not just about how to elect or create better leaders, but about how to create leadership for the world, together.

Soulful Leadership is based on the premise that we each have unique gifts to offer the world, and that sharing those gifts in the spirit of service is the key to both finding your place and playing your part. As Bill Plotkin famously wrote in Soulcraft:

The gift you carry for others is not an attempt to save the world but to fully belong to it. It’s not possible to save the world by trying to save it. You need to find what is genuinely yours to offer the world before you can make it a better place. Discovering your unique gift to bring to your community is your greatest opportunity and challenge. The offering of that gift - your true self - is the most you can do to love and serve the world. 

In this session we will explore leadership from an existential perspective, enquiring into what it means to be human, and from there, what it means to serve humanity’s evolution. 

What to expect:

• Enquiry questions, discussion and sharing in breakout rooms to help you connect to what leadership and the soul mean to you.
• A short talk on Soulful Leadership with reference to multiple psycho-spiritual models and materials
• Meditation, visualisation and poetic evocation to stir your soul and awaken your authentic desire.

The Call

The way we are being ‘led’ is missing a vital dimension - attendance to and appreciation for core the human values of truth, beauty, freedom & love. For, if we are not being led towards that which is most sacred, most meaningful, most deep & abiding in life, then we are being led astray. 

Any leadership that perpetuates paradigms of division, domination and control, is leading us astray… 

When the sanctity of life is being violated, true leadership involves saying a firm and resounding NO to that which seeks to extract, exploit, violate, dominate or manipulate life. (Both in the world and inside ourselves.) And saying an emphatic and resounding YES to possibility, creativity, imagination, joy, beauty and the sacred. (Both in the world and inside ourselves.)

That doesn’t mean that life will always be full of those things, but choosing to live close to them means that in times of great challenge we are able to say YES to life. YES to the possibility of change, adaptation, growth and transformation; YES to the possibility of emergence, learning, and all the things we have yet to feel, see and experience. Because we have something worth living for and living in service to.

And this is really the point. Soulful leaders live in service to something beyond their own self interest. They strive to contribute as best they can to the co-creation of a more beautiful world… This means knowing who they are (gifts and shadows), what motivates them (values and wounds) and how they can make their most meaningful and impactful contribution.

About your facilitator 

I am a psycho-spiritual coach & facilitator. In my coaching work with individuals and groups, I focus on connection to and expression of soul essence, drawing on a range of wisdom and techniques to help people answer the questions, ‘Who am I? Why am I here? & Where am I going?’ in a way that is dynamic and creative. Ultimately I am interested in consciousness, and the human capacity to create and transform.
