This is Part 2 of the conversation with Doctor Larch Maxey (XR, Just Stop Oil, Assemble) for the Talking with the Hippies podcast that you can hear here;- https://open.spotify.com/episode/2KzCxal8oruQy7vR4Lg0fd?si=Am83iq4lQPWixWPUhJJ3OQ (spotify link) or here https://player.fm/series/talking-with-the-hippies. It is a very special, interactive evening not to be missed! It will feature live music, a free organic raffle for all attendees and the chance to really hear and be heard by your neighbours!

Larch is committed to co-creating a world where all can flourish and has co-founded twenty organisations to this end, including Lammas, XR (Extinction Rebellion, HS2 Rebellion and Just Stop Oil). He has taught, researched and practised sustainability since 1988, with over 50 academic and popular publications. His two co-edited books include The Sustainable University (Routeledge) and Low Impact Development: The Future in Our Hands which sold out within 8 months and is now available as a free download. Larch has built and lived in several low impact homes and was Chair of the Ecological Land Coop and a Director of Bright Green Futures.

As part of Just Stop Oil's winning campaign to end new UK oil, coal and gas licenses Larch dug and occupied tunnels with five others, under the approach roads to the Navigator oil terminal in Thurrock, Essex in August 2022. The protest was peaceful and targeted, disrupting road tankers trying to access and leave the UK's biggest oil terminal. After six days Larch was forcibly removed by the police and released without charge. In September 2024 Larch was sentenced to three years in prison, to date this is the second longest UK prison sentence for peaceful climate action. Larch had been on the front line of climate action for decades and now is on the front line of state repression of protest and freedom of speech.

Since his release from prison on curfew tag, Larch has co-founded Totnes and Area Community Assembly, helped run the first sitting of the UK-wide House of the People and vowed to help bring democracy to these isles through Citizen's Assemblies or die trying! Larch will be joining Tom to discuss his experiences and inspire us all to speak with our neighbours and form our own community assemblies!
