Hands of the Heron is a dreamfolk trio from Bristol, UK. Their instantly recognisable vocal harmonies are delivered by three frontwomen - Bec Garthwaite, Beth Roberts & Claire Vine - each of whom brings a signature writing style to the band's mercurial sound. Their latest album Quiet Light is due to be released in November 2024 on their own DIY label Cuculi Records. They move effortlessly between sparse choral folk and spellbinding chamber pop, richly layered with an assortment of strings, drones and reeds. Their second album 13 Moons (2021) has been praised as "a wondrous collection of curious story-songs, choral singing and carefully layered instrumentation" (Joyzine) with "songwriting mastery that perfectly delivers reverberating folk-pop" (Tap The Feed). Esteemed jazz critic Ted Gioia recommended 13 Moons as one of his top recordings for 2021.
They’ve played a diverse range of festivals, including Fire in the Mountain, Purbeck Valley Folk, Green Man, Summer’s End Prog Festival, Fanny’s Meadow and Green Gathering. Recent shows include a sold-out Bristol headline show in September 2022 as part of the prestigious Outlandish Nights series, alongside Lisa O’Neill and Mikey Kenney. In 2023, they sold-out a double bill with Rachael Dadd at St Ambrose (Bristol), and also sold out headline gigs at Barrelhouse (Totnes), Exeter Library and Plymouth Aquarium. In 2024, they’re headlining prog event Eppyfest (28 July), and have played at Bristol Folk Festival and The Harrison All-Day Folk Fest in London, before embarking on a substantial album release tour in the autumn, supported by Anna Anise.
