In this dreamy, philosophical and sociological look at life, Bruce Parry (of the BBC's Tribe, Amazon & Arctic) embarks on an immersive odyssey to explore the different ways that humans relate to nature and how this influences the way we create our societies. From the forests of the Amazon and Borneo to the River Ganges and Isle of Skye, Tawai is a quest for reconnection, providing a powerful voice from the heart of the forest itself.

Tawai is a word the nomadic hunter gatherers of Borneo use to describe the connection they feel to their forest home.

This is a film about reconnection. It connects us to our ancestors and the type of life they may have lived. It connects us with our bodies and senses, inviting us to feel more deeply once again. It connects us to each other, our physical environment, and that which is beyond, by inviting us to reconsider the interconnected nature of all things. But the film is not the end of the story…

We are honoured to host Bruce for an intimate, post screening conversation and Q&A.

Join us on Tuesday 23rd August at Genesis Cinema in East London, as together we will experience this remarkable documentary and hear Bruce speak about his time living with indigenous peoples and his inspiration for his latest projects; exploring ways of living together respectfully and sustainably, tackling our deep seated traumas and delving deeper than ever on a journey into the heart of our collective human conscience.

Where and when?

Genesis Cinema, 93-95 Mile End Rd, Bethnal Green, London E1 4UJ

SPEAKER

Bruce Parry

Bruce Parry is a documentary filmmaker,  indigenous rights advocate, author, explorer, and former Royal Marines commando officer. He is best known for his time spent living with Indigenous Peoples, and for bringing awareness of the shamanic use of psychedelic plant medicine to the mainstream, as well as his investigations into globalisation and climate change. His documentary series for the BBC entitled Tribe, Amazon, and Arctic have shown Parry exploring extreme environments, living with remote indigenous peoples and highlighting many of the important issues being faced on the environmental frontline. Bruce's latest film; “TAWAI – A Voice from the Forest, is about how humankind has shifted its connection to nature with devastating results and suggests how we might return to the egalitarian structures we lived in for 95% of our time on the planet before the agricultural revolution.
