Embodied Movement offers a monthly space for you to listen into your body, connect in community and move together. We will explore yoga practices, including meditation, breathwork and asana for the first half of these sessions. The second half will take you on a guided dance journey, inviting you to explore your body and all of it's corners with encouragement for creativity and self expression.
This offering has sprung out of recognising the importance of dance in our day-to-lives. It is something that would have (in the past) been a part of every community. But something that, at least for many of us, has become a side-lined hobby at best, and at worst an uncomfortable activity, way beyond our comfort zone.
On a personal level the combination of a regular yoga & dance practice, has been a medicine for me over some very challenging times. I am now reaching a place as a Yoga Facilitator who has danced all of their life where the urge to offer more than yoga and asana is blooming. Dance feels like an essential component that is missing from my offerings, and from our society. As well as an acknowledgement of the importance to have a space where we can bind community, through moving, creating, drinking tea and eating treats.
So whether your a seasoned yogi/dancer and want to meet some new faces, or you're new to this entirely but want to connect on a deeper level to your body and to a friendly community, this space is for you!
A note on accessibility and inclusivity.
As a trauma-informed, queer facilitator, I aim to make this space as safe and accessible as possible. I recognise that asking people to come into relationship with their body can be very challenging for us all for a variety of different reasons. These may include our own life experiences/traumas, previous experiences in these types of spaces, as well as a lack of representation or understanding of diversities and needs. As a queer person myself I want to put an emphasis on this being a queer friendly space, recognising the need for more safe queer movement spaces across the city. Whilst wanting to make Embodied Movement as accessible as possible I am aware that I myself am a white, able-bodied human and this may mean those from other diversities' don't see themselves represented in my offering. If you in anyway feel that there is a barrier to you attending due to a diversity need, please do get in touch. I am always open to further discussion and feedback around this.
( The tickets are on a sliding scale, but if money is a barrier please get in touch. I really want this to be accessible to everyone who is interested)
Look forward to meeting and moving with you! 🧡
