In this unique summer workshop, we'll blend two ancient, delicious traditions – the art of foraging and the craft of sushi-making. Join foragers & passionate wild food chefs Simka and Michi for an afternoon filled with urban nature, surprising flavors, and creative discovery as we learn, gather, taste, roll and feast together!

We'll begin with a foraging walk through the beautiful Wuhlheide park, where hidden paths and meadows are bursting with the wild edible abundance of summer. Along the way, we’ll meet a range of edible plants — from aromatic yarrow to kicky garlic mustard, peppery evening primrose to tart plums — and learn how to safely identify, harvest and use them. We'll later use these as our ingredients, turning them into incredible vegan sushi creations unlike any you've tasted before.

After our foraging walk, we’ll head to nearby Goldzwiebel, a cozy workshop space with a well-equipped kitchen, where the second part of our adventure begins: sushi rolling! You'll learn how to craft your own sushi rolls using an array of freshly foraged herbs, flowers, fruits, and wild greens as well as pickled and preserved wild ingredients from earlier in the year. Expect surprising flavors, some creative combinations, and lots of laughter. Of course, we’ll also provide refreshing wildcrafted drinks, including fermented nettle soda and wild cordial to keep your palate inspired and your thirst quenched.

This is a hands-on, fully vegan workshop. Whether you're an experienced forager or totally new to wild foods, and whether you've rolled a thousand sushi rolls or none at all, you're warmly invited to join us. We'll guide you through every step – from plant to plate.

After we roll, we feast: together we’ll enjoy the sushi we’ve made, along with some extra wild treats and seasonal surprises.

The details:

When: Sunday August 10th, 14:00-18:00
Where: Foraging in Wuhlheide (western side); Sushi workshop in GoldZwiebel (short walk together between locations)
Cost: 70€ per person – includes foraging walk, sushi-making workshop, all ingredients, drinks & shared meal
Participants: Minimum 7, maximum 12 (registration required)

The meeting and ending point for the tour are accessible with public transportation. The exact meeting point, along with what to bring, will be sent via email after registration. Don't forget to read your confirmation email carefully!

About the facilitators:

Michi Mueller is a forager from Berlin. His passion for foraging took off when he discovered that there are many edibles in this world that you can't buy in any supermarket—the only way to experience their taste is to go out and forage them yourself. For the last year he has been honing his foraging skills, doing an education as a nature guide. He posts at @michi.is.foraging about his foraging explorations.

Simka Senyak is a wild food instructor, nature guide, and artist based in Berlin. Their work explores the unexpected, indeterminate and delightful flavors and relationships woven by plants, fungi, people and place. They have been teaching workshops on foraging, wild food and nature connection in and around the city since 2021. Registration and cancellation:

Once you register for the workshop, you'll receive an email with all details on the exact meeting location as well as what to bring.

The event will go ahead regardless of the weather. The plants don't mind if it's wet! Please make sure to wear the clothing you need to keep you warm, dry & comfortable.

If you can't make the event, you may cancel by email up to one week in advance. This ensures another participant can take your place. Refunds for cancellations within one week of the event are not possible. After this period, you may transfer your ticket to someone else if you find a replacement, but please make sure to let us know by email.

Because this is a special co-facilitated workshop led by Simka and Michi together, it's not possible to use a Wild Path gift voucher to pay for this workshop.

A note on pricing & philosophy:

It's a deep value of ours that learning about foraging – which radically connects us with ourselves, the land, and one another – should be accessible for everyone. Though we've kept the price as low as possible, we recognize that this workshop may not be financially accessible to all. We are offering one subsidized or pay-what-you-can spot for this workshop, assuming we reach the minimum participant count to go ahead. This spot is offered at a minimum of 15€, which covers the material costs only. Please reach out via email if you would like to take this spot.

If you are interested in learning about foraging, but this workshop is not financially accessible, you are warmly invited to join one of Simka's monthly donation-based community workshops.
