As the season starts to shift, we're coming into one of the most special times of the year – one where we can find an overflowing abundance of fruit, nuts, herbs, and other gourmet edible wild plants, as well as the foodie forager's favorite: mushrooms!

Join foraging guide Simka (they/them) for a deep & gentle late summer adventure into the forest around Hohen Neuendorf, where we will spend the day soaking up the stunning nature and getting acquainted with the most delicious summer mushroom & plant species growing in this area – no experience necessary.

Of course mushrooms can be elusive. Whether and where they appear and how long they last depends on many factors and can be hard to predict. But with just a bit of luck, we'll uncover some delicious fungal treasures to bring home, from sweet, foresty porcinis, to glowing, sunlight-colored chicken of the woods, to nutty parasols, oyster mushrooms and beyond!

And with wild black cherries, lingonberries, juniper, hops, tansy, beech nuts and so many more foresty friends to discover, flavor explosions are guaranteed.

Together we'll explore the forest and learn the basics of how to find, identify, collect, and prepare the abundance of edible wild species that are currently in season. Here you will learn which species to stay away from – and how to get confident enough to bring your own harvest home.

Deep in the trees, away from the city hustle and bustle, we will enjoy a picnic including some delicious homemade foraged snacks made by Simka, so you can discover the incredible range of foraged flavors.

Plus, this tour will take place just as the September full moon is rising. The moon's impact on mushrooms and plants is not fully understood, but according to many foragers and mythologies from around the world and through the ages, the full moon seems to pull new mushrooms out of the forest floor, and bring out the best flavors in wild plants. We'll take our time to enjoy the energy of the day and see for ourselves how nature responds!

During the tour, we'll make our way along the old Mauerweg, past ancient trees, through stunning forest, and alongside a quiet, serene forest lake. Throughout the day, we'll have plenty of time to relax, explore, and take in the beautiful surroundings.

When: Sunday September 7th, 11.00 - 17:00
Where: Frohnau Forest, near S-Bahnhof Hohen Neuendorf (~ 6.5km walking in total)
Cost: 65€ / 50€ (including homemade foraged snacks)

Attendance is limited to 12 people, so registration is required!

The meeting and ending point for the tour are accessible with public transportation. The exact meeting point, along with what to bring, will be sent via email after registration. Don't forget to read your confirmation email carefully.

A note on pricing & philosophy:

It's a deep value of mine that this learning – which radically connects us with ourselves, the land, and one another – should be accessible for everyone, which is why I'm keeping my tours as low-price as I possibly can. This year, I'm using a new system to uphold this financial accessibility while keeping it sustainable for myself.

There are two ticket levels: Full price and Concession. Please choose the concession level only if you aren't able to afford the full price ticket.

If the concession level is also not accessible for you, I really see you and I still want you to come foraging with me! I'll be offering a fully donation-based community tour once a month throughout the season. Please join my Telegram group or send me an email to get updates on future Community tours!

My intention with all of this is to earn a living wage while widening the reach of financial accessibility to more folks than I was able to with my previous sliding-scale model. Thanks for being with me in navigating through the challenges of capitalism with justice, honesty and compassion!

Registration and cancellation:

Once you register for the workshop, you'll receive an email with all details on the exact meeting location as well as what to bring.

The event will go ahead regardless of the weather. The mushrooms don't mind if it's wet! Please make sure to wear the clothing you need to keep you warm, dry & comfortable.

If you can't make the event, you may cancel by email up to 48 hours in advance. This ensures another participant can take your place. Refunds for cancellations within 48 hours of the event are not possible. Within 48 hours, you may transfer your ticket to someone else, but please make sure to let me know by email.
