How does iboga differ from other plant medicines?

Where does it come from?

What are the benefits of a relationship with this plant?

There has been a lot of chatter and press about iboga, the ancient African psychedelic, in recent years. Most notably for its unique effectiveness in treating addictions to opiates and other powerful drugs by relieving physical symptoms of craving and withdrawal.

Its roots are deeply embedded in traditional Bwiti initiation ceremonies and healing rituals of Central Africa and iboga has long been revered for its profound spiritual and therapeutic properties. The word bwiti means ‘emancipation.’ It is a freedom tradition with an ancient lineage and a deep mystery school.

With anecdotal reports of profound healing experiences and promising scientific research shedding light on its potential efficacy in treating addiction, the allure of iboga on a global scale has never been stronger.

So what is this mysterious, powerful psychedelic? What are its healing potentials beyond addiction?

In this talk, we welcome Aluba Fénix, who has been working with iboga since 2012, was initiated into the Bwiti tradition in Gabon in 2014, and now holds ceremonies with iboga medicine.

In this talk, Aluba will share:

  • The essence and ethos of the Bwiti tradition and the place of the iboga medicine
  • The challenges and potentials of bringing iboga to the world
  • Practical advice and considerations for those curious about iboga
  • His personal journey to meet the medicine and how it has shaped his life ever since

Format & location

The evening will begin with a presentation by Aluba on the ancestry of the iboga medicine followed by a Q&A with the audience. We will be gathering at the beautiful House of Transformation in East London.

About our speaker

Aluba Fénix is the Founder and Purpose Guardian of Vivid Imagination, a leadership coaching and training organisation whose purpose is to inspire people to answer the call to authentic leadership and to liberate the imagination, creative potential and performance of their teams.

Aluba began his career as a Sport Psychologist working with athletes to help them prepare mentally for competition. He then shifted career to become a corporate athlete and spent 20+ years working for a number of large Californian technology organisations. In 2012, he experienced a period of burnout and this led him to explore plant medicines as a way to recalibrate his relationship to life. Today Aluba lives in Portugal with his wife Pelly. Together they run Total Reset Retreats, bringing the magick of IBOGA to the world. Aluba has two children who live in the UK and one grandchild.
