Let's take a late spring wander past a stunning lake and through the forest, learning about edible plants and delighting in their wild spring flavors as we go!

Join Simka (they/them) for a day trip to Tegeler See and its surrounding forest, where we will get well acquainted with a delicious range of common, beginner-friendly herbs and flowers abundant in Berlin in the spring and early summer – no experience necessary.

Together we'll explore the lush greenery and learn the basics of how to find, identify, harvest, and prepare the wild plants that are currently in season. You'll learn which plants will explode with flavor in sauces and pestos, such as earthly nettles and parsley-like ground elder; how to make a refreshing soda brimming with wild forest flavors; which flowers to use for syrups, jams, cordials & baking; which plants to use for incredible pickles and ferments that will last you all summer long, like wild leek bulbils and Japanese knotweed stems; which leaves to throw into a salad for bunches of flavor and nutrition; and  much, much more!

With a big focus on keeping yourself – and the land and its other inhabitants  – safe while foraging, you'll discover how to get confident enough to bring your own harvest home, and come away with loads of ideas for how to prepare your finds.

We'll take our picnic lunch at the side of the lake, where we'll enjoy homemade foraged snacks made by Simka, including wild vegan sushi!

During our hike, we'll also pay a visit to Dicke Marie, an 800-year-old oak tree and the oldest tree in Berlin, as well as pass the Wildgehege, where we'll get to delight over the adorable wild boar piglets and sweet deer.

Over the course of the day, you'll have plenty of time to unwind, explore, and absorb the beautiful surroundings, and to take a dip in the lake if you'd like to. Our tour will end at a cafe on the lakeside, where we can relax together and enjoy a delicious ice cream at the waterside before returning to the city.

A note on pricing & philosophy:

I offer my foraging tours on a sliding scale / pay-what-you-can basis, because it's a deep value of mine that this learning – which radically connects us with ourselves, the land, and one another – should be accessible for everyone.

However, I do rely on this income!

That means: if you have the means, pay the full fee, or more.

If you don't have the means, please feel fully invited to pay whatever you can.

And if you want to come, but genuinely cannot afford any extra expense, reach out to me directly for a 100% discount, no questions asked. I have absolutely been there, I see you, and I want you here.

I'm trying to do things differently, because it matters to me. Please join me in the complexity of building a better, more equal world!

Please note: because of the costs for material and time involved in preparing the picnic element of this special day trip tour, subsidized & pay-what-you-can places are limited.

Registration and cancellation:

Once you register for the workshop, you'll receive an email with all details on the exact meeting location as well as what to bring.

The event will go ahead regardless of the weather. The plants don't mind if it's wet!

If you can't make the event, you may cancel by email up to 48 hours in advance. This ensures another participant can take your place. Refunds for cancellations within 48 hours of the event are not possible.
