Are you seeking a joyful and embodied way to dance with others?
Curious to explore your habits and patterns in connection?
Do you wish to deepen your experience of Contact Improvisation?
Or are you looking for a welcoming, safe space to begin this beautiful practice?
Embodied Connection:
A Journey into the relational field of
Contact Improvisation
In these day-long workshops, we will explore the essential principles and qualities of CI through the lens of somatic awareness—tuning into the world perceived through our bodies, which are shaped and defined by relationship. We will explore the relationships we hold within ourselves, with each other, and with the world around us.
Through slowing down and developing sensitivity, we will create a space of safety and deep listening, allowing us to attune to the subtle signals of the body. We will cultivate the ability to listen deeply to what arises within, what is felt, and what emerges in the space between us. This mindful attention will guide our dance with ourselves, with each other, and with the world.
Contact Improvisation offers a form through which we can explore these deeper connections. By embracing its principles, we create a container for spontaneity, play, and mutual support in movement.
This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience, including those new to CI.
What to Expect:
• Exploring the principles and qualities underlying Contact Improvisation
• Deep somatic exploration and embodiment
• Exploration of Contact Improvisation techniques and principles
• A safe, slow-paced environment focused on deep listening and sensitivity
• A deepening connection to your own body, others, and the world
Whether you’re new to CI or looking to deepen your practice, this workshop will provide tools to explore relational movement in a way that is both nourishing and playful. Come join us in the field, where we meet beyond the mind, in the presence of the body.
Testimonial
“David is an amazing human and teacher. The class was fun, well held and I learned how to do contact improv, which was a real edge for me, in a safe and playful way.” - D.A
"David’s classes offer a beautiful mixture of somatic awareness and technique. I’ve really enjoyed becoming more intimate with the foundational languages of CI in a sensual, paced, experiential way—I’ve noticed far more integrity in my movement, more awareness of energetics and a deepening in my relationship to ground and space. I love the way David prioritises regulation in the group, giving us enough time to drop in and attune our own bodies and to one another. I really appreciate his awareness of safety and his true interest in the relational field, which creates such a permissive, connected, safe space. I’ve had many ‘aha moments’ whilst moving with David, and look forward to continuing to deepen into the essential qualities of this incredibly special dance form—thank you David!

Bio:
David has been passionately immersed in Contact Improvisation (CI) for over a decade, dedicating himself to sharing the deeper, more nuanced layers of this embodied and relational practice. His exploration spans the spectrum from the everyday (profane) to the deeply transformative (profound), seeking to uncover the richness of human connection through movement.
With over 15 years of meditation experience and extensive studies in Buddhism, David integrates mindfulness and a holistic perspective into his CI teaching. His journey is further enriched by his engagement with shamanic and relational practices, which deeply influence his approach to embodiment and connection.
David’s true passion lies in uncovering what happens beyond the physical movements—exploring the profound learning that takes place when we shift out of words and fully engage the relational, somatic body. Through the subtleties of Contact Improvisation, he has experienced significant personal growth and transformation, and his teaching is aimed at fostering deeper, more meaningful connections—both within oneself and in relation to others.
As the founder of Soma Space (www.somaspaceci.co.uk), a collaborative organization dedicated to promoting and sharing Contact Improvisation practices, David continues to create spaces for others to explore this beautiful form of dance. Beyond CI, David is a qualified architect specializing in the eco-refurbishment of heritage buildings. He is also an experienced event organizer and healer, having worked with Vortex Energy Healing and facilitating Kambo Ceremonies, bringing a holistic approach to all aspects of his work.
