Co-creators 4/14

From the Ashes

From the Ashes is an experimental, co-created gathering in which we will endeavour to meet in the ‘heart crack’ of these times, and create from that place.

We are interested in the meeting place of art, spirituality, and activism; in practices that help us to come into contact with this moment of crisis and collapse, and that support us to create from that place, as an act of resistance and an affirmation of life.

We feel that artists have a unique and important role to play in these times; to sing laments that help to open the gateways of grief, and to plant seeds of hope, wonder and possibility.

We want to offer a space of sanctuary, depth and inspiration that can support artists to enquire into what it looks like for their creative practise to respond to these times; and to experiment with technologies of co-creation.

What to expect:

A three day co-created gathering including group practise and ritual, free time for creative development and a space to showcase new work and receive feedback.

This is an informal residential gathering - you will need to bring your own camping stuff but will have access to the house for bathroom, showers, kitchen etc.

Your financial contribution covers the cost of food, which we will buy, and we will all participate in the cooking of the food over the weekend. Please sign up to a cooking and cleaning shift when you register.

The event will include:

  • Guided creative practice, inspiration, and prompts, that support us, as artists to deepen into our art, practice, and transmission, with feedback also.
  • Free time for artistic practice
  • Movement, meditation and Embodiment work that supports creative practice through certain lenses
  • Working with ritual around key pieces of Artists of the Blooming, including honouring and becoming a torchbearer, working towards collective blazing, and other pieces.
  • Practices that support us to come into artistic co-creation with one another.

Practices and space to meet the metamorphic fires of our times through working with the heart of crisis.

  • Space to share and showcase your work.

The Call: Artists of the Blooming…

Artists of the blooming

Know that whether we are

hospicing a world,

Or birthing one,

We need Art.

We need Art

to honour that which has passed;

To honour our grief for the losses,

To give due homage,

And to create the funeral rites

For that which needs to die.

And we need Art

To invoke possibility

And sing a new world into being;

To kindle our passions

And connect us to what really matters

Making Art in this context is radical.

In that it means going back to the root.

The root of our humanity.

Art that asks, what does it mean to be human?

And art that responds to that question.

Artists of the Blooming...

See the world with two eyes.

The first sees

The Fall.

The second sees

The Rising.

The first meets

The heartbreak,

the terror

That brings us to our knees…

The second sees

The Crucible

Forming for our hearts

to break,

Together.
