Let’s face it, none of us are getting out alive. 

And yet most people in Britain encounter death without preparation, permission, or any sense that they are entitled to do it differently. The industrial death complex is efficient. It processes grief on our behalf, files it away cleanly, and hands us a sandwich on the way out.

We believe there is a better way. We also know we cannot build it alone. 

Mortal Made is an arts-led project co-founded by artist/creative producer Chloe Osborne and artist/designer Steven Aron Williams aka White Paper Pen, based in Folkestone. Since 2024 we have been running festivals, residencies, and late-night events that use making, movement, and collective ritual to help communities sit more honestly with death, dying, and loss. We work from the understanding that making is a form of knowing, not a decoration of it. Trauma and grief live in the body before the mind finds language for them. A haptic, sensory space can reach what conversation alone cannot. This is not therapy. It is not a funeral. It is the thing that is missing between the two.
