“Things which matter most should never be at the mercy of things which matter least.” - Goethe
Hi there,
If you're anything like me, sometimes it feels like the world is spinning faster than I can keep up with - jobs, relationships, events, politics. That the days are flying by and somehow we're nearly halfway through 2024. I often find myself swept up in a sense of perpetual motion and my natural response is to pedal faster, to push harder, in a desperate attempt to match a relentless pace.
But as our bodies and the wise ones across the ages know, the secret to ‘keeping up’ is not to run faster but to slow down.
When we remember to pause, we can take a clearer look at where exactly our time goes and the priorities that are shaping this precious life of ours. We can choose. For me it can be as small as remembering to breathe, to write, to cling to a tree. But even more powerful is making space for ceremony and ritual.
These are intentional, protected spaces that not only allow us to slow down and step out of the everyday flow but to be fully present; to tune into our inner wisdom, to remember our place in the web of life, to be with and guided by others. And they're especially important in conjunction with psychedelics whose shattering insights need space to breathe and integrate within us afterwards. Of course, all of this isn't always easy. It requires a conscious choice, a willingness to let go of the false urgency that so often drives us. It means saying no to certain things in order to say yes to what truly matters.
This week we're highlighting all our events in ceremony & ritual. As a very humble student to the art of slowing down, I hope you'll join me on the journey:
