Wild and Free: Letting the Ancestors Speak
A Poetry and Creative Writing Workshop
Join award-winning poet, Jenny Mitchell, and the Brighton-based collective, Circle Bird
Press, for a relaxed, non-judgemental half-day workshop during which participants will be
encouraged to write about their deep connection to their ancestors.
Jenny will offer gentle creative prompts that examine the idea of transgenerational
transmissions, allowing participants to access power and a sense of well-being. We’ll be
working in the beautiful surroundings of Future Roots with plenty of time to share our work if we
like, or to write quietly on our own. The main aim is for participants to create work that helps
them feel grounded in a world that often seems overwhelming.
The emphasis will be on self-care and creative freedom. Open to all.
Jenny has three poetry collections, two of which are prize-winning. She’s won numerous
competitions, and was Poet-in-residence at Sussex University in 2024. She’s a poetry co-editor
for the Morning Star and a facilitator for the Irish Writer’s Centre. She edited the anthology
Everyone Started Singing: Poetry and Community in 2026, and also received an Author’s
Foundation Grant and an Arthur Welton Award from the Society of Authors.
Workshop date: Saturday 12th September 2026
Time - 14:00 – 18.00
Venue: Future Roots, Stanmer organics.
Light refreshments provided.
