What happens when you take a century-old Tarot deck, tear it apart and put it back together again?

Come and celebrate the opening of a new Tarot-inspired exhibition by Margate artist Megan Metcalf, where the iconic archetypes of the Major Arcana are ripped, layered, cut and reassembled into something entirely new.

Inspired by the visionary artist Pamela Colman Smith, creator of the imagery behind the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot, Megan has spent months literally shuffling Pixie’s iconic designs — transforming familiar symbols into raw, tactile and contemporary collage.

“For me, collage is a physical way to connect to her designs and the symbolism. It’s about taking those century-old symbols and reassembling them in my creative language.”

— Megan Metcalf

Megan’s work explores the magic that happens when something familiar is broken apart and given a new life. Shuffle is both a celebration of Tarot’s enduring visual language and a playful act of creative reimagining.

And this isn’t an exhibition you simply look at.

Step inside Megan’s life-sized “Become the Sun” installation, put your face into the artwork and take home a Polaroid of yourself becoming the Sun — available for a small donation.
