The jam is a space for freedom, presence, and embodied play. No experience is needed—just curiosity and openness. We welcome all bodies, identities, and movement expressions.
We'll also gently weave in elements of authentic relating and nonviolent communication to support meaningful connection and a culture of care.
Live music is encouraged 🎵 We have several instruments on site, and you’re welcome to bring your own instruments or your voice.
Throughout the summer, we’ll aim to host jams most Tuesdays, but starting with three dates as a test. We might offer jams on Sunday if the outdoor jam is cancelled because of the weather.
🌀 What is Contact Improvisation?
Contact Improvisation is a movement practice or somatic form that began in the 1970s within the world of experimental postmodern dance in the United States. It explores movement through touch, gravity, and shared weight, and has since spread to communities around the world.
A Contact Improvisation jam is an open space to explore movement in and out of physical contact. There are no steps to follow, no teacher, and no performance. Instead, we listen with our bodies and respond to each other through touch, sensation, and presence.
The dance is spontaneous, fluid, and sometimes unpredictable. You are invited to move, pause, observe, or rest as you like. We aim to create a space of mutual respect, care, and consent. We dance barefoot in comfortable clothes. Talking is kept to a minimum so the space stays focused on movement.
We look forward to welcoming you at Lakefront! 💫
