Get ready to chop, sizzle, and learn! Join us for a fun, hands-on evening where you’ll team up with other youth to create a super flavourful Egg Roll Bowl—a versatile, easy-to-master meal that makes for great leftovers. You'll learn the secret to building incredible flavour using simple ingredients and the magic of cooking with aromatics (onions, garlic, ginger) to end up with an extra flavourful dish. This is an easy recipe you can easily reproduce at home. Bring your appetite, your creativity, and your friends (or make some new ones!) for a night full of vibrant flavour, skill-building, and teamwork.
We need your creativity! For the icebreaker, come in with an idea of your favourite easy recipe—something where you take random ingredients you have on hand and make it work (an easy put together recipe). Examples include goulash, quick wraps, and simple salads. We'll share this in the workshop, or you're always welcome to "pass."
Participants will also receive $20 in Harvest Bucks! Redeem them for fresh eggs, vegetables, and fruit at participating locations throughout London and Middlesex County. For more info, visit: https://www.healthunit.com/harvest-bucks
This beginner-friendly workshop is all about creativity, teamwork, and tasty food — no cooking experience needed!
In this workshop, you will:
- Meet your group & connect: Kick off with a fun icebreaker to get to know your team. Your group will be assigned based on your protein choice (Tofu, Ground Beef, or Ground Turkey).
- Master the chop: Learn how to safely and effectively chop staple aromatics like onion, garlic, and ginger.
- Build your flavour base: Work with your group to brown your chosen protein and sauté your aromatics, learning how to build flavour in the pan.
- Finish the bowl: Combine the protein and veggies with the sauce to create the final, delicious egg roll bowl mixture, which will be served with rice and vermicelli noodles.
- Dig in & reflect: Share the meal your group prepared, served over rice and noodles. Discuss the flavour profile, compare experiences, and reflect on the skills learned during the workshop.
What you’ll need:
- Your appetite and enthusiasm!
- All ingredients, tools, and materials are provided.
- Bring a container if you want to take home leftovers.
- Bringing a friend, sibling, or support person? Awesome — just let us know when you register so we can plan ahead.
